Great experience on a private trip in the Danube Delta

Can't say enough good things about this trip. We'd been looking for a birding trip in the Delta and they were either fully booked or super expensive. And then we came upon Safca. Though not specifically birders per se, they worked with us to come up with a three day private slow-boat tour through various small canals and lakes where we could see lots of birds. As we arrived at Mila 23 we found some beautiful rollers (super exciting). The next AM we saw all kinds of birds on the way to Letea and back. Another night in Mila 23 and off again birding on the way back seeing more rollers, bee eaters, and kingfishers. The best surprise of all was the black woodpecker we found at the picnic lunch spot our captain new about. Safca was super accommodating, pleasant, fun, and took great care of us. Both father and son treated us well. Our captain was really alert to us seeing birds, stopping for birds, slowing down for us to take photos, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Most Danube Delta tour companies are not active off-season, but Safca is active year-round. My wife and I were the only passengers on this tour, which we consider extremely good service. They guide and crew spoke very good English and were knowledgeable and friendly. They helped us spot birds and taught us about the ornithology, history, culture and geography of the Danube Delta. The hospitality aboard was above reproach. For lunch we were served the famous Danube Delta fish-stew, and it truly deserved its reputation as among the best of its kind in the world. We hotel pick-up and drop-off were smooth. We cannot recommend Safca highly enough. One thing: if you go on a winter tour make sure you dress up warmly. Even though warm drinks and blankets are provided it can get cold.
