Sannai-Maruyama Site
The site is a large settlement site dating from the early to middle Jomon Period (ca. 3,900-2,200 BC, ca. 5,900-4,200 years ago from the present), with many pit and dugout pillar building sites, fillings, and graves of adults and children, as well as a large amount of earthenware, stone tools, valuable wood products, bone and horn products, etc., having been excavated. In May 2003, 1958 of the excavated artifacts were designated as National Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and in July 2021, the "Jomon Monuments of Hokkaido and the Northeast" including the Sannai-Maruyama Site were registered as a World Cultural Heritage site. Known as a place where visitors can experience the "mura (village)" of the Jomon period

We had a 6 hour tour with Atsushi which went to the Hirosaki Castle, Hirosaki Park, Sannai-Maruyama Site and the Wa-Rasse Nebuta Museum. It was a long journey to the Hirosaki Castle and Park but was well worth it for the cherry blossom that we saw. It has many variety of cherry trees so there were lots of different colours. We then went to the Sannai-Maruyama Site where Atsushi had a wealth of knowledge and in-sight into this fascinating historic site. We finished our tour at the Wa-Rasse Nebuta Museum, another great experience and one not to be missed. All through the tour Atsushi gave us lots of information and made the whole experience one to remember. We would highly recommend Atsushi if you are looking for a great experienced guide in Aomori. Josh was a wonderful guide. His ability to inform us while we transited to the Lake made the hour plus ride go quickly. He had local stories about the area and especially promoted the apple industry Aomori is known for. Thoroughly enjoyed the day with Josh
