Newquay
Our first stop of the day and a visit to the 'surfers paradise' of Newquay! (Cornish = Tewynblustri) Around 25,000 people live in Newquay but this swells to 100,000 or more in the summer. The town has been expanding inland since the former fishing village of New Quay began to grow in the second half of the nineteenth century, and the western edge of the town meets the Atlantic at Fistral Bay. We'll park up at Fistral Beach where hopefully conditions will be right to witness some surfing acfion whilst we get our bearings. Driving around the Grade 2 listed Headland Hotel we'll pay a visit to the Huer's Hut which has been described as "a particularly fine late mediaeval specimen". The Huer's Hut served as a lookout point from which a man known as a huer could keep watch for the arrival of the pilchards. It's a marvelous structure and there's a teriffic view from here of the North Coast of Cornwall stretching out into the distance. That's where we're headed...onwards!
Watergate Bay
Watergate Bay is a vast stretch of sand, big Atlantic swells, and high sea-beaten cliffs; a dramatic landscape, it’s one of the county’s wildest coastlines and considered by many as one of Cornwall’s best beaches. It's 3km beach faces the Atlantic Ocean and with the sea swell it's easy to see why the English Nationals Surfing Championships are held here. If the sea-breeze gets too fresh, there are restrooms and cafes close by...

Kernow Tours is the one to go with! Conrad was very good with communication, and the day was perfect from start to finish! We loved seeing sites from Doc Martin, Outlander, Game of Thrones and Poldark. Not to mention the untouched beauty of the land all around. Bonus were all of the great photos stops and Singing by non-other than Conrad himself. Great time!

We have just completed our Northern Cornwall tour with Conrad from Kernow Tours today, and I can honestly say it was one of the best private tours I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. From the moment we first booked the tour over 9 months ago, Conrad’s communication, attention to detail, and genuine care in helping plan the experience were absolutely exceptional. Nothing ever felt too much trouble, and the level of personal engagement leading up to the tour was unlike anything we have experienced before. Although the weather was not the best at the start of the day, Conrad did not let that impact the experience for even a moment. He adapted the itinerary seamlessly and, before we even properly began, took the time to genuinely get to know us, understand our interests, and tailor the day accordingly. That personal touch made such a difference. Conrad’s knowledge of Cornwall, its history, culture, and local stories was simply phenomenal. As visitors from Australia, we found it especially fascinating hearing about the Cornish influence on Australian history, slang, mining heritage, and culture. It added such a unique and meaningful dimension to the day that we never would have experienced otherwise. To top it all off, the weather cleared around midday and we enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon exploring some truly stunning parts of Northern Cornwall. We have done many private and guided tours over the years across different countries, and Conrad was, without question, the best guide we have ever had. His passion for Cornwall, professionalism, warmth, humour, and ability to create such a memorable experience were outstanding. Could not recommend Conrad and Kernow Tours highly enough. Thank you again, Conrad, for such an unforgettable day.

The most interesting day we spent with Conan. He was full of facts, historical perspective as well as satire. A fun packed experience in which this tour operator went above and beyond. I would recommend the North Cornwell as a well thought out overview by a man passionate about his county. Highly recommended. Highlights included church dating it's origins from 500AD and the stained glass inside. Doc Martin's Cottage and surgery along with Port Isaac.

Conrad the proprietor was responsive and flexible in organising a tour that suited our available dates and the particular points of interest we had for Cornwall. Suzie our tour guide was friendly, a responsive listener and clear communicator. This together with her knowledge of Cornwall’s history and features, made for a very relaxed and informative day and left us feeling satisfied and rewarded from the experience.

We booked the private North Cornwall tour with Conrad and another couple on a recent British Isles cruise port stop in Cornwall. The tour was excellent, Conrad picked us up at the cruise ship terminal and off we went. Conrad has a great local knowledge of all things Cornwall. We made numerous stops to enjoy spectacular scenery, historical sites, cliffs overlooking the ocean and several small towns. If you are fans of either Doc Martin or the Poldark series you will recognize the beautiful scenery. Along the way we visited Port Isaac where Doc Martin was filmed and several sites from Poldark. At another stop we sampled Cornish pasties and other local foods. Even though the itinerary was packed with memorable places to see, we were back to the cruise ship in plenty of time. Cornwall is a beautiful place and Conrad knows Cornwall. If you’re visiting Cornwall by land or via cruise ship I highly recommend you consider Conrad and one of his many Kernow tours.

Conrad is a walking, talking encyclopedia of Corwall history, current events, geography and geology. He was always checking on our comfort (temperature, hunger, exercise) level and teaching Cornish language and pronunciations. He wanted to know our interests so he could include places important to us. The fee was very reasonable considering the level of service he provides. He is very friendly and funny. It was a delight spending the day with such a warm caring person.

Fantastic day out exploring gorgeous North Cornwall! I was looking for dramatic, rugged coastlines and cliffs, and this tour delivered! There were also plenty of unexpected hidden gems along the way that I never imagined I would see, like a pirate grave in a Christian cemetery and a beautifully preserved rood that somehow survived the Reformation. Conrad was a friendly and knowledgeable guide, and went out of his way to customize the itinerary to match my interests. He was very prompt and clear with all communication and is an excellent driver. Highly recommend!

After our car hire fell through, plan B was to book a private tour. Boy, I was glad we booked Kernow Tours! Our guide, Conrad showed us sides of Cornwall we would have missed on our own. His breadth of knowledge is amazing, he could talk about geology, history, pirates, fishing, tin mining, the old saints, pilgrim routes, Cornish language, farming and weather. His love for Cornwall is sincere and infectious: Highlights for me was seeing the stacks of Bedruthern Beach from off the beaten track (!), the Huer's hut in Newquay, the vivid and still intact rood and carving in St Mawgan's church, the yummy pasty stop. Professional, knowledgeable, and wonderfully engaging. Conrad has a fine tenor voice and sang a funny sea shanty and a song which his friend wrote. Also, not having to drive meant who could sample Cornwall's finest ales. If you're looking to learn about Cornwall in a short space of time, Conrad is your man.
