This bird watching tour takes place in Santiago Atitlan if you are in Panajachel you can send us your hotel one of our specialized guide will go for you and will take you by boat to Santiago where we will take a track that will take us at the entrance of the reserve.
The rey Tepepul trail is located in the mountains that connects the Pacific of Guatemala, the type of forest is cloudy and you walk for about 3 kilometers that will take about 3 hours approximately it is recommended to have a good condition.
Also a place that connects with nature. There are river, mostly time of the year is humid. olso you can see local people warking in farm.
the birds that we can find we have resplendet quetzal, azure-rumped tanager, norhern emerald tucanet, crested guan, black thrush, brown backed solitare and more.
this tour requires a minimum of two people.

5.00Fantastic! Elias was a great guide, knowledgeable and fun. They picked us up in a private lancha at our hotel Tzanjuyu, Santiago then by truck to the trail. It was an adventurous and strenuous outing. We saw many amazing birds, including the holy grail, a macho quetzal in full plumage. Once in a lifetime!

5.00We stayed in Panajachel and were brought to Santiago by boat—picked up by Elias at 6 AM sharp. Important to start early, as fog may start rolling in on the mountain at 10AM. Thereafter, there is a truck ride thru Santiago to get to a trail up Atitlan. Definitely wear hiking footwear, and be prepared to hike to maximize bird sightings. We’d rate the hike at least a medium difficulty. Elias was a knowledgeable guide who truly cared about giving us the experience we wanted—he knows where birds are nesting. We heard, but did not see quetzals, though one was seen just prior to our arrival, but we saw several other varieties, including toucans. It’s beautiful country, and off the beaten tourist trail. Very happy that we did it.

5.00My husband and I went on the tour with Elias, and he was a really great guide! The hike through the cloud forest was fantastic, and we were fortunate enough to see 3 Quetzales! I would highly recommend this tour- from the boat ride over from Pana, to the truck ride back into Santiago, we had a really fantastic time!
We were so fortunate to see a Quetzal during this tour!

5.00This was our first trip to Guatemala and one of my biggest desires was to see the lovely quetzales. The tour was well organized. We were picked up at our hotel at 6 am, our tour guide took us to the boat, we travelled to Santiago Atitlan, were picked to go to the reserve area and walked up the trail to see the quetzales. During our walk we were able to observe other local birds, our guide had a very nice lense and binoculars. The hike is not easy trail, and our tour guide was very patient waiting for us during the steep hike. We were very fortunate to see a female quetzal! Simply GORGEOUS! I felf she even posed for us. The guide's lense gave us an excellent view of this lovely bird!!! During our return, we were able to see more birds and the local flora. From there we were taken to a site with an excellent view of lake Atitlan! The tour was very nice, our tour guide very knowledgable on all the local birds and explained the timeline and months to observe the quetzales. The tour was well worth it!
