Full-day tour from Bhopal to Sanchi, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Udayagiri Caves. The 'Great Stupa’ at Sanchi is the oldest stone structure in India dating back to 3rd century. It is located on a hill dotted with a group of stupas, monasteries, temples and pillars that are of importance to Buddhists. Later visit Udaigiri Caves - a historical Hindu ritual site. Udayagiri that literally means the 'mountain of the sunrise' consists of a substantial U-shaped plateau immediately next to the River Bes.

Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi

On a hill overlooking the plain and about 40 km from Bhopal, the site of Sanchi comprises a group of Buddhist monuments (monolithic pillars, palaces, temples and monasteries) all in different states of conservation most of which date back to the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. It is the oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence and was a major Buddhist centre in India until the 12th century A.D.

Udayagiri Caves

13 km from Sanchi, Udayagiri Caves date back to 4th-5th Century AD. The caves possess all the distinctive features that gave Gupta art its unique vitality, vigour and richness of expression; the beautifully moulded capitals, the treatment of the intercolumniation, the design of the entranceway and the system of continuing the architrave as a string-course around the structures are very worth a visit.

Frankly these two places have no interest, spend more time admiring the Stupa is much better. It's not worth the caves of Ajanta, Ellora and Badami.

Guide and driver are kind and professional，really nice experience. It‘s about one and half hour drive from hotel in Bhopal city to Sanchi.

This is one of the most important place to visit as this houses the famous sanchi stupa.the minute workings on each and every corner is spectacular. Spending 2hours goes just like that here and is at some an hour driving distance from bhopal station.
