Discover this amazing ecosystem with incredible species that were able to adapt to the no rain season. Within the fauna, there is a charismatic monkey, the Cotton Top Tamarin, a squirreled – size primate that takes the first place as one of Colombia’s most appealing endemic mammals.
Through this unique off-the-beaten-path trip will make you enjoy the flora and fauna of this forest while you´re learning of it, having fun and exercising yourself.

At 6:00 a.m. we drive out of Cartagena towards the Bolivar´s department, in this area, We hike to discover the flora, the fauna of this region. At 12:00 p.m. approx., we have a typical lunch from the area. At 1:00 p.m. approx. we leave the region. Approximate Driving Time: 2,0 hours. Approximate Hiking Time: 3,5 hours.

5.00This experience changed my life. I saw so many Colombian wildlife. I saw my favorite plant mimosa pudica and when you touch it closes! I also was able to see tons of centipedes, butterflies, and 3 different types of monkeys. One of the monkeys is a rare species where there is only 7,000 left on earth. I was so happy and totally recommend this experience to everyone. Olí made sure we were safe at all times and we had the best food.

5.00Hiking through the Colombian tropical dry forest with Olinto was one of the highlights of my trip to Cartagena. The track is on private land so you won’t encounter any other tourists, making this truly an off the beaten path adventure. We saw dozens of howler monkeys, quite a few of the more elusive cotton-top tamarins and all along the trail an abundance of birds, plants, butterflies and the occasional spider. What made it truly special was Olintos extensive knowledge of all the flora and fauna we encountered. We stopped numerous times to spot rare birds or learn about the fruits and herbs of the forest and how they are used by its inhabitants. The hike took about three hours which felt perfectly adequate in the Colombian heat and humidity and ended with a delicious lunch. After dropping me off Olinto followed up by sending a list of recommendations for restaurants and food in Cartagena and by sending the pictures he took during the hike. I had a great time and would recommend anyone to give hiking in Cartagena a try!

5.00Fantastic experience with Oli. He is a great guide and very enthusiastic to show you as much as he can. He has great knowledge of Colombia and the area we visited. Breakfast was great and lunch was superb. We see many howler monkeys, lizards and birds! Communication is brilliant as soon as you book it Oli messages you all that it requires and what you need. Overall it was a fantastic day and back around 2pm so it isn’t too draining and tiring in the heat! I would fully recommend this small group tour for a great personal touch from Oli.

5.00I had an amazing time on the HowlingTrail hike with Olinto. He is very accommodating and knowledgeable in the tropical forest areas. I was able to see quite a few red howling monkeys and also some Tamarin monkeys too! The food was great especially the sweet drink that came with lunch. Book an experience with Olinto. You won’t regret it.

5.00This was a fun and unique experience as part of our trip to Cartagena to visit nature and see some amazing animals - the highlights being two types of monkeys and the common basilisk. Oli was very knowledgeable and informative and the fish lunch after the hike was one of the best things I ate during my trip to Colombia!

5.00Olinto was a great guide and we saw several different monkeys… even heard and saw 3 families of Howler monkeys. Just outside of Cartagena this is a must if you love nature.

5.00Quite easy path, guide Oli accompanied us well. We have seen many birds and monkeys. Providing water and clothing water, heat and humidity can make the experience more difficult.
