Discover Belfast’s past while exploring life during The Troubles, when conflict, fear, and resilience shaped everyday reality. Guided by two local women — one from a Republican background and one from a Loyalist community — you’ll walk the Falls and Shankill Roads, where murals, streets, and memories reveal how identity, division, and community shaped their childhoods. They share personal stories of loss, strength, everyday routines under threat, and the courage required to hold families and neighborhoods together. Though separated by politics and walls, their experiences reflect a shared determination to protect loved ones and hope for a better future. You’ll also learn how women on both sides supported dialogue, helped sustain the peace process, and continue to work toward reconciliation today. More than a sightseeing tour, this is a reflective, human encounter with lived history — an invitation to hear real voices and understand Belfast through the perspectives of its women.

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Belfast. What we loved about it was the fact that you are hearing from people who lived it, the trauma is still very evident but there are some lighter (not many) moments as well. The stories are from personal experience and they took place in the streets you are walking down. If you thought you knew about the troubles then I suggest you take this tour as it gave us a much greater insight into what life was actually like growing up on the Falls or the Shankill, particularly from the perspective of a daughter or mother. Highly recommended, thank you to both ladies for sharing there stories.

It’s a tour that deepens your understanding of the conflict in Belfast — and how you understand the people that lived through such a traumatic time. Two women share such wonderfully open accounts of their personal experiences from either side of the conflict was something I’ll never forget. I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did, but their honesty, strength, and vulnerability were overwhelming in the best way. It was incredibly powerful to hear first‑hand stories from women who lived through those times and whose voices are so often missing from the narrative. Some of the stories were absolutely devastating, and they will stay with me. I’m so grateful to these women for offering such a generous, personal, and courageous experience. It’s a tour that changes how you see Belfast — and how you understand the people that lived through such a traumatic time.

Excellent tour with informative and personal insights on both sides. Learned a lot. Headset’s in first half were very good and would’ve been good to have in second half as well.

This is by far the best history walking tour I've ever been on. The two women explained the history of the troubles really clearly and concisely, and their inclusion of personal stories made it even more powerful and poignant. It has only been running since January and I feel so lucky that I didn't visit Belfast before it started! I will be recommending this tour to anyone I can, and really really really recommend anyone who is reading this review books it straight away!

Cannot say this is a laugh a minute tour. Very serious, very emotional. Both ladies give their views on being on opposite sides. They do not apologize or attack the other. It deals with the heartfelt emotions of being, literally, at war. A war that involves family, friends, and children and in Julie's case home when gunmen entered her home and tried to execute her father, right in front of her. Certainly makes one think. Learned a lot and I am still mulling over the education I received. Best of the future to the ladies.

I feel truly humbled and privileged to have spent three hours with Barbara and Julie. It’s hard to put into words just how powerful and unforgettable this tour is—if you ever get the chance, don’t hesitate to go. The first half, led by Barbara on the Catholic side of the wall, is followed by the second half with Julie, who guides you through the peace gates into the Protestant side. Hearing two deeply personal and contrasting perspectives on the same conflict is incredibly moving. Both women are remarkably strong, having lived through the Troubles themselves, and their stories bring a level of authenticity and humanity that no other tour could replicate. This experience goes far beyond history—it’s personal, emotional, and profoundly impactful. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing your stories with us. Wishing you peace always.
