The Ancestral Waters is a mystic & unique experience led by locals from Chemuyil. someone born and raised in this jungle. From the beginning, you are along with one of us, someone who explored these cenotes long before they were shown. You will visit three breathtaking cave cenotes, including one of the most extraordinary in all of Quintana Roo. You will enjoy some of the best cave snorkeling in Tulum, surrounded by ancient formations shaped by time. Inside these caves, we create moments designed for reflection and connection. As you explore these ancient chambers, these landscapes open your imagination to the past. Memories of when these were once dry, or when the Mayans visited them for connection. This intimate journey, guided with care by locals, offers a deep and authentic connection to nature, to the stories of the land, and to the timeless beauty that surrounds every step on your path.

We'll greet you at our office in our community Chemuyil. You'll meet your guide, learn about the itinerary and important details. If early, you can enjoy complimentary coffee before we start. After that, we’ll hop into our vehicle and drive into the jungle. This ride takes us to a hidden area where we will start our experience. Upon arrival, you'll gear up: wetsuit, lamp, helmet, and snorkel mask. Next, we'll start a walk through jungle paths for about 10 minutes.
Once we reach the first stop, we descend into Uj, a cenote filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient rock formations. There, we’ll get to its complement: Kiin, a cenote beautifully lit by sunlight. If lucky, we may spot the toh bird, a regional symbol of cenotes. After exploring, we’ll walk back to the majestic Templo Mayor. This cave, considered one of the most spectacular cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, will transport you into a surreal scenario. Swimming here feels unbelievable. And finally, we return to the village to enjoy a delicious home cooked meal, prepared by ladies from Chemuyil. It’s the perfect way to connect with the land and its people.

5.00Incredible experience! Without a doubt, it was one of the best tours we took during our trip. The visit to the cenote is experienced in a completely different way than at the more touristy and commercial places. Everything feels much more authentic, peaceful, and connected to nature and the local culture. The prior attention via WhatsApp was excellent: always attentive, kind, and willing to help us with any inquiries. Our guide, Pablo, made the experience even more special. He explained the history of the place and the project, answered each of our questions, and made us feel very welcome in his community. Additionally, throughout the tour, he took care of taking the photographs, which allowed us to set aside our cell phones and fully enjoy the experience, truly connecting with the surroundings. We recommend it 100%. The photos are beautiful, but they do not manage to convey what it really feels like to be there. It is an experience worth living in person.

5.00We had an amazing trip with a terrific guide, Oswaldo! He is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly & authentically proud of this land & the cenotes. We did an open cenote & a cave cenote in the jungle where we met a Mayan guard, Don Fillipo, who gave us a beautiful blessing prior to our dive. Afterward, we were treated to a home cooked meal & margaritas! This was one of the best days we’ve ever had & we will never forget it! Thank you, Oswaldo!

5.00I don’t even know where to begin. Behjil-ha and the people involved are phenomenal! The friends we made, the experience, the lunch, the cenotes…amazing! It was exactly what we were looking for - a way to experience the cenotes with folks who truly care for these special places. I learned so much from them about their village and how they cleaned up and are protecting the cenotes. I was a bit hesitant about visiting three underground cenotes but our guides Marcos and David immediately made me feel comfortable. I wore a wet suit they provided because I’m wimpy with cold water and it really helped. My husband didn’t and was fine. The caves were magical. The guides were informative and lots of fun! My favorite part was when we turned off all our lights and sat in the quiet darkness. Bejil-ha also arranged our transportation. Ivan picked us up and it was an immediate connection. Great conversation, great person. We felt so taken care of that we ended up working with Ivan to organize additional trips, like snorkeling at Akumal with his friends and he even arranged our trip to airport from our hotel. Only the highest recommendation for this experience! Must do! 💗💗💗

5.00This was honestly the most AMAZING thing I have ever experienced in my life. The customer service was at a level that far surpasses most places. The guides were knowledgeable, funny, passionate, kind, friendly, personable, and just all around amazing. The cenotes were absolutely astounding- especially the cave. This is a once in a lifetime time opportunity and I hope I can return with my kids one day. I highly recommend this- you will not regret booking this!
