Akagera National Park
A 1-day safari to Akagera National Park offers a fast yet immersive experience of Rwanda’s only savannah wilderness. You depart Kigali at 5:00 am, driving east through rolling hills to reach the park by 7:00 am. After registration, the game drive begins across open plains, lakes, and acacia woodlands. Along the way, you may see giraffes, zebras, elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and, with luck, lions or rhinos. By midday, you pause near a lake to watch hippos, crocodiles, and birdlife while enjoying a simple lunch.
