Today we get ready to explore the most amazing archipelago on the Pacific coast and the place where Charles Darwin based his theory on the evolution of species. We will board a morning flight from Quito to the island of Baltra. Once we arrive, we head to the town of Puerto Ayora, the largest town in the Galapagos. From here we will take a quick boat to the largest island in the archipelago and where most of the volcanic activity in the Galapagos is reported. The island was formed by six shield volcanoes, Alcedo, Cerra Azul, Darwin, Ecuador, Sierra Negra and Wolf; five of them are still active which makes the island one of the most volcanically active places on earth. During our island crossing, be on the lookout for dolphins and whales (July to October). The Galapagos Islands is located 600 miles (965.6 km) from the coast of Ecuador, it is really important to understand that you will have to take air, road and sea transportation to get there.

In the afternoon we will visit Tintoreras Islet, located at a short distance from Puerto Villamil and home to a great variety of wildlife. I went on a group trip with Diego as our local guide. It was an amazing trip. He showed us the beautiful nature of Ecuador and let us connect with the local culture throughout the trip. He had so much to tell about the country. He strives for good quality trips, and because of that, he is very open to feedback. If there is something you would like changed or added, he is committed to making it the best experience. He was always there when we needed something, even until late and that was great. And Johnny was our bus driver, he is also amazing, drives very safely, and is so pleasant. I had a great time with them, I definitely recommend it!

The guides were absolutely amazing! So friendly and helpful and they really knew a lot! So if you're planning on doing this trip, hope that your guides are Andy Burgers (Galapagos) and Alfonso Freire (Amazon) The tried to adapt the tour to our wishes and gave us so many informations. The hotels were amazing and clean. The tours were perfect and we got to see so many animals and see the nature.

Everything was well organized and both guides (Jorge Coronel and Gabriel Salas) were extremely knowledgeable and very personable. From the first airport pickup to the last airport drop off, everything was planned out and communicated clearly. Our ten days were spent exploring the wildlife, food, culture, and varied landscapes of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We snorkeled with curious sea lions; observed a humpback whale; marveled at the giant tortoises; shared a meal with an indigenous family in the highlands; explored the Amazon rainforest; and relaxed in volcanic hot springs, among other fantastic forays. I cannot describe how amazing this trip was and I am ready to return for more exciting adventures with this top-notch company.

Our guides, Priscilla for the Galápagos portion, and Paul for the Amazon portion, were both exceptional!!! They were both very knowledgeable, personable, and the best you could hope for in a guide. All of the activities and the wildlife sightings were amazing. We also really enjoyed the visit to the Kitchwa Community. I would definitely recommend this trip to everyone!

I'm an avid traveller and this trip was the vacation to end all vacations! I can't tell you what I liked best as it was all amazing! The tour guides were friendly, knowledgable, and well organized. The visit into the Amazon basin was so much more than I expected. And the Galapagos...well, I have wanted to visit the Galapagos since I was 12 and it was all that I wanted it to be! Giant tortoises! Blue footed boobies! Sea lions! Finches! I've already recommended Adventure Journeys to several friends as I never would have had such a great experience without them!

I've just returned from the trip of a lifetime with Adventure Journeys. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this group and how well organized our trip was! My friend and I flew in a day early and did the Quito day trip with Alejandro taking us around the city for great views, pictures, and delicious bites to eat. The next day began our Amazon journey with our guide Jose. We kayaked, visited an indigenous village, an animal rescue and also enjoyed some relaxing time at a volcanic hot spring. The second half of the trip was with Daniel in the Galapagos and WOW what an incredible place to visit. I had no idea how complicated it is to get to the islands! I was so glad I booked with AJ to help me get there and fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the wildlife first hand. They really thought of all the small details and made sure we were well rested and fed for all of our big adventures. I really didn't know much about Ecuador prior to visiting but now that I know how beautiful the country is and how kind the people are, I cannot wait to return with AJ again.

Just about to head home from our Ecuador adventures. We saw a ton of amazing stuff and met some awesome people. The Galápagos Islands are packed with must see wildlife and sights. We lucked out and saw a bunch, the only miss was cloud cover on our trip to the Volcano, and while the Adventure Journeys guides can work wonders, they can’t control the weather. We bumped into a traveler from the east coast(USA) while in the Galapagos. She told us about her horror story of the company she booked through going belly up and leaving her totally screwed. At that point I knew 100% we had made the right choice. Adventure Journeys has their stuff together (they did change names recently to Adventure Journeys). We met a bunch of travelers who had booked with Adventure Journeys and everything we heard was positive. The highlight of the trip was our guide to the Amazon, Christian. He was a fountain of knowledge and had a very outgoing personality. He pretty much made the kayak trip down the Amazon. Don’t get me wrong, trips down the Amazon would be awesome to start, but we definitely had the best guide on the PLANET and that made it more than awesome. Our philosophy as a family is don’t pass up a chance to try something. From eating bugs (grubs) in the local village, to zipping through the canopy/sub-canopy on a wire, we did it. We had one extra day before our departure and Christian arranged a small side excursion for us with a guide up the volcano, Cotopaxi. Our guide Sebastian knew a lot, had great taste in beer and cheese, and was super helpful. Amazing views at 16000ft and despite the lack of oxygen we’re all still semi functional. I would recommend Adventure Journeys without hesitation. I look forward to if/when they expand their brand to include surfing etc in their adventures.

First off let me start by saying that any trip can have a well laid out plan, but to pull of a trip like this you need a FANTASTIC guide! Christian was TOPS! I have never booked a trip online before, so I was a bit nervous as to what to expect. I wanted an exciting adventurous tour from start to finish. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the Amazon part but boy am I glad I did! AJ was great with communication. Our plane was delayed overnight and I was concerned as to how we would get picked up the following day. They tracked our flight and when we arrived our driver was waiting for us holding a sign with our names on it. At that moment I knew we were in good hands. Every detail was laid out and executed to a tee! From drivers, to transfers, to guides, to lodging, to food and restaurants and excursions - everything was perfect! Our hotels/lodging was beyond our expectations. Nice, clean, and comfortable accommodations in the best spots possible. Our Amazon portion of the trip was totally amazing. What a learning experience it was! We kayaked down the river, had a wonderful lunch, and then continued without skipping a beat in the pouring rain. We loved the salt lick and paddle boarding down the river the next day. I loved watching the monkeys swing in the trees and learned how to use a blow gun. We were welcomed by the indigenous Kichwa Community with delicious food that they had prepared and a beautiful dance presentation by the children. The learning aspect of this culture is nothing that you can find in a textbook. Truthfully our days were packed and so much fun. Our portion of the trip to the Galapagos was also quite amazing. We stayed right on the beach with the water and pelicans right out our bedroom door. We snorkeled and saw marine life that we have never seen before when snorkling, like black tipped sharks and sea horses. We learned about the blue footed boobys and saw so many of them. My favorite is the penguins and luckily they were there at the time we visited. It was an up close and personal experience. The sea lions were all over as well as the iguanas. We did some more kayaking, took a bike ride, saw the gigantic tortoises and did so much more than I could have ever imagined. Christian was the best leader/guide. He had everything well organized and timed out perfect. He had sought out great places to eat and recommended certain foods to eat. He never let us down. These ten days far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Adventure Journeys to take you on a trip of a lifetime- one that you will never forget.
