Early morning our guide will pick you up at your hotel to then head east directly to the Andes until Yerba Loca Natural Sanctuary. On the parking area our horseman will be waiting to load the equipments and beginning our hike through the glacial valley that extends gaining altitude and encasing gradually to the north. The trail section to our camp site has 6,5 miles (10,5km) and consist of five hours of hike. The trail ascends with low steepness by the east bank of th river, which delves slowly in the deep mountains where vegetation soon disappears, giving way to bare rock. On route, creeks appears on the right moments with pure water for good hydration. As we get into, the valley narrows and towering stone walls begin to unfold. The camp will be emplaced on a great spot near at the foot of a singular waterfall that freezes in winter. Here we will enjoy the Andean night accompanied by a delicious dinner and a good conversation

In the morning and after breakfast we will disarm camp and prepare the equipment for the muleteer who will help us by bringing back down our equipments to the entrance of the Sanctuary. The first section consists of crossing Yerba Loca estuary and start zigzagging to reach new vistas of the valley and the huge surrounding peaks. We will cross a great plain well known as "Campos de Marte" (Mars fields), passing through "Piedra Carvajal", an old stone refuge used by muleteers and possibly built by the Incas. After about two hours and having gaining more height, La Paloma Glacier begins to be appreciated. The Altar mount (5,180m - 16,984ft) and La Paloma mount (4,910m - 16,098ft) impose themselves full of expression. We will have lunch at the foot of this glacier and recover energy while enjoying a unique landscape. By the afternoon we will begin the hike back to the vehicle to then get return to your hotel (20:00 hrs. approx.).

Outstanding! Nicolas was a wonderful guide -- prepared, knowledgeable, experienced -- and a consummate host. We had a great time and are happy for the experience.

My friend and I hatched a scheme to meet in Santiago for a long weekend (I live in Boston, he lives in London) and we both LOVE to hike. We needed an adventure that we could arrange remotely and that did not require our bringing a bunch of gear. Nicolas and the team at Coigue DELIVERED! We had an absolutely wonderful overnight hike to the Paloma Glacier, complete with terrific meals, multiple condor sightings, incredible star gazing, and every detail taken care of for us - from pre-trip emails explaining what we needed to bring, to prompt pick up at our hotel, to informative, genuine and engaging conversation during the hike itself - 20 miles in two days! I cannot say enough about the entire experience - I would book another adventure with Coigue in a heartbeat (and plan to if I return to Chile any time soon). It's all about the experience (the mountains themselves haven't changed much in 100 million years or so) and Coigue knows how to do it right...

We organised this hike for two of us. Nicolas communicated with us by email, recommended the hike and made all necessary arrangements. He met us at our hotel on time and drove us to the base of the Yerba Loca river and into the Park where we met the horsemen who transported all our kit (tents, sleeping bags, food etc which Nicolas had organised) to the top of the mountain. The hike was wonderful, and we were blessed with amazing weather. We camped out at 3000m under amazing stars after a hearty meal cooked by Nicolas. Very cold but we were well protected in our sleeping bags. The next morning after a lovely hot breakfast we climbed another 600m to the glacier and then made our way back down meeting the horses at the bottom. Amazing mountain views, wonderful 30km hike, condors, glaciers, waterfall, good food, lots of local information and details from Nicolas. What is not to like. A huge success. Highly recommended (and not that hard a hike - 2 50 somethings were knackered at the end but still alive!).
