The Simien Mountains are one of Ethiopia’s most popular destinations. Sitting just north of Gondar, it’s easily accessible along the northern circuit of Ethiopia. Comprising 220 square kilometres of peaks, plateaus, vistas and valleys, the park offers stunning viewpoints and some of the best trekking routes in Africa.
The two lodges in the area, Simien Lodge and Limalimo Lodge, offer great alternatives to the typical camping and trekking setup, meaning whatever your budget, fitness levels, or accommodation preferences, you can visit the Simien Mountains and enjoy all the beauty the park has to offer.

Gondar to Sankobar Drive from Gondar to Debark. Here we obtain a permit from the Park headquarters and collect our obligatory scout before continuing to Sankabar (3250m ASL) for the first overnight camp. An early start is needed as the drive from Gondar takes a 2-3 hours. The trek begins at Buytras (Simien Lodge), taking about 3 – 4 hours to walk to the Sankabar campsite is usually possible. During the walk there’s a good chance of seeing your first Gelada Baboon

Simien Mountains National Park
in the morning of day 2, we will walk to Geech via the spectacular Jinbar waterfall. The trek will take approximately 5 – 7 hours. After descending down to the Jinbar Wenz (which feeds the waterfall) a short ascent remains to Geech village. A short distance beyond Geech village is the camp site. The camp site has great views of the mountains and is characterized by giant lobelia plants. The nearby Kedadit summit provides one of the best places to see the sun set. The camp site is situated at 3600m ASL.

Geech to Ambaras to Gondar We trek from Geech to the Imet Gogo promontory, for one of the most spectacular views in the whole mountain range. This is a great day for seeing the magnificent Lammergeier vultures. From Imet Gogo we trek back to the road near a village called Ambaras and meet the car for the drive back to Gondar. The trek will last approximately 4-5 hours.

5.00Ethio Backpacker Tours is a brilliant tour company! We highly recommend taking this tour and asking for Tsehaynew. He seems to know more information than the others. Even though we didn’t have enough time to travel to Lalibela, we’re convinced to come back. Their customer service is the best We experienced in Africa. The tours are organized yet adventurous. We will be returning next year (or the year after) to visit the other part of Ethiopia with this company and hope it'll be with our same guide.

5.00I been to simien mountain during October, and my first arrival of Gonder and I saw the fasil castle and other churches. Gonder is only town and has many mountains but indeed historical. next day, we drive to the mountain and camp two nights. We saw massive numbers it gilada baboons, klipspringer and endemic birds. I love the cook, guide and the entire atmosphere. Thanks to the company for the special coordination.
