I booked for my family, 4 persons, a 2D1N join in package at Borneo Calling. Booking, payment, securing the permit, pick up at hotel, organisation of entire climb went very smoothly. Our guides were always nearby, we felt secure all the way. Very satisfied with this team, thank you. Climbing Mt. Kinabalu doesn't require climbing skills, only endurance to take a lot of steps. Basically just steps. Unfortunately for us, we were returned from our summit climb. It was one of those rare ocasions when summit was closed due to heavy rain. I felt that rangers very overly cautios but later in another park I had a discussion with a local guide with knowledge about conditions on Mt. Kinabalu who told me that rainwater rushing down is really dangerous. Mt. Kinabalu is a relatively easy target for those aiming for 4000 m high peak and don't have climbing experience but are fit enough. I really tested my limits.

I booked a 3D2N private tour with Borneo Calling on just two weeks' notice. While the price for a solo traveler wasn't cheap, it was absolutely money well spent. From start to finish, the experience was seamless. The office staff (shout out to Mei!) were incredibly responsive on WhatsApp, and my driver, Alfie, gave me a comprehensive briefing that calmed my pre-climb nerves. The logistics—from hotel pickup to Poring Hot Springs and Kinabalu Park—were completely hassle-free. The highlight, however, was my guide, Harris. As someone who isn't the fittest and didn't train as much as I should have, I was worried. Harris paced me perfectly and ensured I summited and descended safely. He’s also a phenomenal photographer! Reaching Low’s Peak (4,095m) for sunrise was a core memory. If you're looking for a professional, supportive team, go with Borneo Calling.

My partner and I had a great experience with Borneo Calling for our 2D1N Mount Kinabalu climb. From booking through to the climb itself, everything was well organised and clearly communicated, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. It’s not a cheap experience, but there are limited operator options and overall the logistics, permits, and arrangements were handled very well. The hike itself was fantastic - challenging but incredibly rewarding. The buffet food at the mountain accommodation was excellent and much better than expected given the altitude. One thing to be aware of is that there’s no hot water, and accommodation is in shared dorms. I’d strongly recommend bringing an eye mask and ear plugs, as people wake up at different times, lights go on, and snoring is unavoidable. In our case, our dorm woke up almost two hours earlier than needed for a 2:30 AM summit departure, which made for minimal sleep… alternatively book the private accommodation. Adrenaline and caffeine will get you to the summit though! Summit morning was an unforgettable experience. It was very cold in January, so layering is essential. It’s also worth pacing the summit hike steadily so you don’t arrive too early and end up waiting at the top for sunrise while exposed to the cold. Our guide, Joe, was excellent - calm, professional, and clearly very experienced. While we didn’t spend much time with him personally as he stayed back to support two slower climbers in our group, it was reassuring to see his commitment to making sure everyone was well looked after. Overall, climbing Mount Kinabalu was a highlight of our trip to Sabah, and having a reliable local operator like Borneo Calling made a big difference. I’d happily recommend them to anyone planning the climb.

It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. This is true for many travelers, and my decision to climb Mount Kinabalu. meant overcoming one of my biggest weakness: endurance, flake weather forecast, injuries etc. Mt Kinabalu stands at 4,095.2 metres (13,435 feet) above sea level. It is a World Heritage site and the highest mountain in Malaysia. To help preserve the natural beauty the government decided to cap the number of visitors to Kinabalu each day. The rules also state you cannot climb yourself, and have to do with a guide or organised tour group. We opted for 2D1N trip duet to our limited travel period to KK. The first day was quite a tough climb. We trekked about 6km, up through the clouds to a little lodging nestled into the mountain side. The view was stunning, particularly at sunset as its foggy and the sunset shine from afar, and they fed us very well which was good considering how much we’d each paid for this trip. On the way to the lodging we were constantly passed by porters carrying luggage, food, drinks and heavy looking necessities. I asked our guide about them who told me these guys do this every day, making numerous trips, carrying on average 20-40kg each way each time. Hats off!! The Long Walk Down Mt. Kinabalu We had another great day of weather for the Summit trek to the peak, and the views were just as incredible. And as we descent though its downpour and foggy halfway, made the trek slippery and challenging on legs. It really showed why this is such a popular spot for travelers, and thankfully completely justified the rather expensive price tag. We made it down, just in time for the bus back to town. We were given a certificate to say we’d made it, but really all Iwe wanted was a warm shower and a well rested sleep…both of which I had as soon as I got back to Kota Kinabalu. Both of which were definitely well earned.

Had a great climb. What I liked was Borneo calling adjusted to my experience. I was self drive and they helped me find location and time. I climbed fast and they adjusted lunch and dinner to fit my schedule. They arranged special transport. Also loads of little extra perks all the time. Great experience with a solid company. All in all they took care of me! Thanks to the team. I will be back.
