  I am a solo female study abroad student here in Costa Rica for the summer. I was a little nervous about going by myself, especially since I had never done rapids before. However, the company and the guides, made sure I had an unforgettable experience. They are very careful and considerate of the weather and other factors. I have done over 10 excursions so far during my time in Costa Rica, and none of them compared to this one. The guides were friendly, hilarious, overly helpful, went out of their way to make sure I felt safe the whole time, and not to mention, the best cooks. Going home from this excursion was almost a little heartbreaking. The first day was a few easy rapids (level 2), and some time to unwind and eat a savory dinner at the resort. Day two, was a day to explore the beautiful resort, relax, and try your best to take in the beautiful views. Day three was packed with level 3 and 4 rapids. The guides keep it fun and lighthearted the entire time. I could not say enough good things about the people of this company!

  We had an amazing experience at Pacuare River! We stayed at Ave Sol lodge which was amazing. From being picked up from the airport by Richard —who was amazing and took care of all our needs including a long transfer after the trip to the whole white water rafting experience with Esteban! I really liked that our safety was a priority and the company was well equipped with it. We had a wonderful time thanks to people like Richard and Esteban who made sure we were well taken care of. Both went above and beyond to make sure our trip was fun, adventurous and made sure we were well fed throughout the trip. Food was well done with all the team at the lodge. 10/10 white water rafting experience and hiking in the forest and being one with nature. Highly recommend!

  

  

  

• No show! Very disappointing

  I booked, paid and received confirmation from Viator 10 days before the date of the trip. I waited to be picked up on the day and when I wasn’t I called the tour operator. They said I wasn’t going because there is a 2 person minimum and I only booked for me. At no stage did Viator or the operator contact me to tell me it wasn’t going ahead. By then it was too late to book another tour or activity. Absolutely terrible service. Disappointed not to go and disappointed after having a great time otherwise in Costa Rica.

  What a tremendous 3-day trip, thanks to Giovani for his skill on the river. My wife started very nervous about our rafting, but within an hour, we were all enjoying the trip. Thanks to Alex and Diago for making our stay at Ave Sol River Sanctuary so much fun (can all 3 of them cook!!!!). The walk up to the waterfall was a great adventure, complete with a thunderstorm, screaming monkeys and trees falling in our path. Thanks again to all for a great adventure and trip.

  What an amazing trip. We went on the 3 day adventure and very happy we did! The guides are all very knowledgeable and kind. The meals were fresh and delicious! The hikes and rafting were awesome! Will go back again for another 3 day trip!

  An experience which I really could recommend!! From the guides (Michele) to the Lodge Owner (Alvaro) and his wife were all so friendly and try their best that you have an unforgettable visit in their lodge. You feel like a part of their family. The lodge is just beautiful with very clean houses/rooms and a majestic view to the rainforest. The trip on the River Pacuare is as well as just impressive, pure nature and not less adrenaline.

  I can't say enough good things about this adventure. From beginning to end the team from Tropical Rivers took great care of us (family of 2 parents and 2 adult sons) and gave us an experience we will never forget. Rafting on the Pacuare River was a blast - the scenery was gorgeous, the rapids were exciting, the Rios Lodge where we spent two nights was an oasis in the jungle with gorgeous flowers, stunning views, comfortable rooms, and the most amazing waterfall pools to swim in. But what made this trip truly exceptional was our guide Raul. He is an expert paddler and knows the river by heart - we always felt completely safe. Having the other rafts and the kayakers nearby reinforced my peace of mind - they all worked as a team on the river and it was clear these were seasoned professionals. Raul had non-stop energy, was a super fun person to be around and had an encyclopedic knowledge of the animals, insects, birds and plantlife. He took us out on three separate long hikes, (including one at night!) and was able to name and give fun facts about everything around us, wildly exceeding our expectations. Raul and his helper Alonzo (who expertly handled the supply raft and made sure the food and all our belongings didn't end up in the river) were also talented chefs, preparing and serving the fresh, delicious buffet-style meals in the Rios Lodge's open air kitchen overlooking the river. They even made intricate garnishes out of vegetables and, since I'm not a coffee drinker, Raul concocted amazing hot chocolate for me each morning. Although we moved on to other beautiful areas of Costa Rica over the following 8 days, our conversations kept turning back to Raul and our adventures on the Pacuare River.

  There was mix-up on the lodge we were supposed to stay in. We were put up in a property was not the one we paid for but the company made it right by giving us a credit - which was very honorable by them. If we had originally booked the lesser quality location we would have been fine because it was fun and unique. So with the credit it all came out great! The accommodations we ended up with I would call primitive glamping, no hot water, pretty open to everything but we enjoyed ourselves. Our river guide, Michele, was outstanding. He also took us on a hike to the indigenous village above the lodge we stayed, they have been living close the same way for almost 400 years. Great experience. The beauty going down the river was breathtaking!!!! I would highly recommend this Pacuare river adventure!

  Insane experience, super good organization! The rafting is great with very good, expert guidance, the lodge where we stayed for 2 nights totally great! Basic amenities but absolutely good. Food very good and the guides, Esteban and Diego were great and very cozy! Day 2 I did a nice hike with the guides; saw a lot and had a lot of fun at the waterfalls and had a nice swim! • SPECTACULAR!

  It has certainly been one of the best experiences we have been able to live in Costa Rica. Our guide was Kenny and we could not have been better accompanied and taken care of. A 10 from start to finish. The only way to access the accommodation is by rafting, so you can only bring the essentials. In our case they kept our large travel bags until the end of the experience and we left with the backpacks where we carried what was necessary for the three days. Rafting is very safe. They give you helmet and protective vest. The guides are experts and know the river very well. We were also accompanied by an extra support person who was always nearby in a canoe. We do two rafting trips. The first of about 1h30 and the second of about 4h with stop for lunch. The River is spectacular, the second part is the most scenic. It is indescribable how beautiful the landscape is and that of flora and fauna that you see during the tour. Floating in the quiet areas of the river is highly recommended. Also on this second trip we were accompanied by a professional photographer who took photographs during the tour and then sold us all at a very good price. We found the Ríos Tropicales hotel spectacular, its setting in the middle of nature makes it magical. We had a wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinner, especially at dinners where we were prepared a table with candles and wine. We could also enjoy the "happy hour" (a drink and pecking great) about 5:30 pm. If all this was not enough, we also had the opportunity, thanks to Kenny, to know what an indigenous village was like in the past, a few hours walk from the hotel. PURE LIFE!
