Damaraland
Today is a long day in the vehicle travelling through rural Namibia. Our journey takes us through Damaraland where we have the chance to meet the Damara people where we can support them at their small pop up shop, as well as get to know them in their local environment.
Uis
Just before we reach Uis, we stop at a small Himba settlement. Here we can enjoy a short tour through their village and get to know a little more about what makes the Himba people so unique. On arrival in Uis we make a short stop to resupply cold drinks and have a quick bathroom break before continuing our journey across the desert.
Zeila Shipwreck
We then make our way across the plains of the Namib Desert, through the the coast where we make a stop at the Zeila Shipwreck.
We arrive in Swakopmund late afternoon where we will check into our accommodation at Hotel A La Mer, located just across the road from the beach as well as some of Swakopmund's top restaurants. Dinner tonight is at own expense.

For those interested in birds our driver will be happy to take you to Walvis Bay to see the flamingos in the Walvis Bay lagoon which is a protected RAMSAR Site for birds.
Okahandja Mbangura Woodcarvers Craft Market
From Walvis bay, we start the journey back to Windhoek. As we travel back we will see the Spitzkoppe in the distance, Namibia's very own matterhorn. Spitzkoppe is home to a population of Damara people that make their living from the small scale mining of semi-precious stones. Time permitting we can stop at their small crystal market and have the chance to learn more about how they mine, and what treasures can be found in the mountain. We make a brief stop at the Okahandja woodcarvers market on our return to Windhoek. Here you need to make use of your bargaining skills if you want to purchase some hand made souvenirs. We arrive back in Windhoek late afternoon returning to Chameleon Backpackers. Those staying elsewhere will be dropped at their accommodation.

Strongly recommend. The Etosha portion of the tour provided many opportunities to see animals, and the accommodations were excellent throughout. Our guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. Swakopmund and Walvis Bay provided a very different view of Namibia from the park.
