  Our five-day trip to the Omo Valley was an eye-opening cultural experience, but it came with serious discomforts and some troubling moments. Before we arrived, we asked our guide if the lodges had air-conditioning and basic Western comforts, and he assured us they did. That was not true. There are no lodges in Jinka or Turmi with air-conditioning, and most of the places we stayed had very limited running water. The showers were barely a trickle—nowhere near enough to get clean—and cleanliness overall was an issue. Mosquitoes were constant. We also felt uncomfortable right from the beginning when our guide pressured us to cancel our reservation with the tour company and pay him directly instead. We refused, but the request set a strange tone for the rest of the trip. We paid close to $2,000 for the tour, and it’s hard to see where that money went—certainly not toward accommodations or basic amenities. That said, the chance to spend time up close with five different tribes was meaningful. The culture in the Omo Valley is unlike anything I’ve seen: unique, vibrant, and deeply rooted. However, I did question whether the tribes were actually benefiting from our visits. Many seemed hesitant and were eager for us to buy items at their market stalls. If you go, bring small gifts for the children—we brought 500 Jolly Ranchers and wished we had brought three times more. This trip is best suited for travelers who are prepared for rugged, uncomfortable conditions in exchange for a rare and authentic cultural experience. The human connection and cultural insight are worth it—but only if you’re fully aware of what you’re signing up for.

  We had an unforgettable experience exploring the Omo Valley with Dagi as our guide and Sura as our driver. Dagi was fantastic—knowledgeable, kind, and deeply connected with the local tribes. He helped us interact respectfully with the communities and was incredibly helpful when I got sick on the first day of the trip (unrelated to the tour), going above and beyond to make sure I was okay and still able to enjoy the journey. We visited many different tribes and handed out crayons, notebooks, and little toy frogs to the kids, which brought so many smiles. Dagi’s English is excellent, and he explained everything clearly and with passion. Sura’s driving was careful and smooth the whole way, even on the roughest roads. This trip was eye-opening and heartwarming—one of the best experiences we’ve had traveling.   Without doubt Ethiopia trip was one of the best experience! I would love to say Big Thank you to Dagi and our driver Suri for organizing everything for us. We did 7 days Omo Valley trip. Everything was smooth starting from the first day from the airport till the last day of the trip. Dagi was very knowledgeable, he answered to thousands of our questions! He was passionate to show the beauty of the country and people! Dagi made an effort to bring us to the Bull Jumping ceremony in Hamer Tribe even it wasn't planned that day. It was unforgettable experience!!! And we're so grateful for that! In every village Dagi helped us with advices about the best way of interacting with tribes. Playing with the kids, joking with local people he made a friendly and warming atmosphere in all places we've stopped.   We spent 4 incredible days in Omo Valley. Dagin and his stuff were excellents coordinating our whole stayed in Etiopia. I completely recommend this trip

  We spent three weeks in Ethiopia in February/March and loved every part of it but our favorite was in the Omo Valley with Dagi, the owner of Golden Ethio Riding Tour Company. If you love a cultural experience then you can’t beat visiting the various tribes of the Omo. Dagi drove us for five days visiting markets, tribes and villages. He is knowledgeable and an excellent driver. His English is very good and he has a good sense of humor, which I enjoyed. I know he also does trips in other parts of Ethiopia so when I go back I will most definitely use his services again!

  We spent the last five days of our Ethiopia trip in the South Omo Valley with our guide (and driver) Dagi. He is a fantastic guide. Very informative, knowledgeable, friendly and funny. His English is excellent. The roads are pretty rough in the Omo but Dagi is an excellent driver and I never worried about our safety! I would definitely want Dagi guiding me again if I go back to Ethiopia...he’s the best!
