Overnight in a traditional riad in Fes.
Hassan II Mosque
Arrive in Casablanca and meet your driver outside the airport. Begin with a visit to the stunning Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Morocco and the third largest mosque in the world that non-muslims are allowed to enter. Able to accommodate up to 105,000 in prayer, this marvel of modern Moroccan architecture is the work of hundreds of expert craftsmen from around the country, many of them donating their work.
Hassan Tower
Continue on to Rabat, where you will visit the Hassan Tower, which has sat unfinished since 1199. Commissioned by Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, the tower was to be the minaret for the largest mosque in the world. Unfortunately, when the sultan passed away in 1199, the project was abandoned, leaving some partial outer walls, 348 columns, and a minaret only standing half-finished at 140 feet rather than the intended 260 feet. Standing opposite the Hassan Tower is the Mohammed V Mausoleum, which contains the tombs of Mohammed V, the current king's grandfather, as well as the king's father, Hassan II, and his uncle, Prince Abdallah. It is considered a masterpiece of Alaouite architecture with its white walls and green tiled roof.
Fez
Continue on to Fes, where you will check into the riad.

LUNCH
Lunch
During your tour of the medina, you will stop for lunch in a local restaurant.
Fes el-Bali
Tour Fes with a private guide. (Walking tour with some transportation between sites.) Begin at the royal palace, with its seven golden doors, and learn about the significance of the intricate decor. Stroll through the Mellah, or Jewish quarter, which was built next to the palace to offer protection. Take in the view of the city from Borj Sud, a former fortress and one of the lookouts on a hill where you can see all of Fes laid out, allowing you to spot landmarks otherwise hidden by the skyline-obscuring buildings. Visit a pottery co-op to see how they make the unique Fes pottery, as well as handcrafting the intricate mosaics adorning half of Morocco. Head into the ancient medina and step into a sort of living museum. The Fes medina is very much a local community that lives and works and goes about daily life in the medina, so be sure to keep moving and watch out for the donkeys! Stop by the Al-Quaraouiyine University, the oldest degree-granting university still in operation, having been founded in 859CE by a woman. Visit handicraft workshops, where you will see why Fes is considered the handicraft capital of Morocco. This can include, among other things, the silk weavers, where beautifully colorful fabrics are woven from silk fibers of the agave plant; and the famous Fes tannery, where they process all manner of animal hides by hand, much as they have for nearly 1,000 years.
Overnight in a riad on the edge of the sand in Merzouga.

Merzouga Desert
Depart Fes after breakfast and begin your journey south. Make a coffee stop in Ifrane, a small ski resort town that is also known as the Swiss village due to its alpine-style architecture. Visit the wild monkeys in the cedar forests outside of Azrou, where they are happy to be fed but surprisingly well mannered. Stop in Zayda for lunch, enjoying fresh barbecue in one of the many streetside restaurants. Take in the scenery as you cross the Atlas Mountains. View the lush green date and almond trees filling the gorge in Errachidia. Arrive in Merzouga in the evening and check in to your riad in time for dinner.

Erg Chebbi Dunes
Begin with an SUV excursion through the Sahara Desert. Stop for tea with a nomadic family in their winter home. The nomads herd sheep and goats from the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Desert, moving with the weather. Visit the Gnawa Village to listen to their entrancing music. The rhythmic, hypnotic music has long been part of their ceremonies, from the time their ancestors were brought to the area as slaves. The music has influenced an entire genre that is performed all across Morocco and has even inspired several music festivals. Hunt for fossils of aquatic critters in the desert. The Sahara was once an ocean 7 million years ago, and there are countless fossils remaining. In the late afternoon, meet your camels for your trek into your desert camp. You will journey through the dunes, and your camel guide will be able to get some great pictures for you as well! Arrive at your camp and enjoy a welcome glass of Moroccan mint tea and Moroccan cookies. Take some time to relax before dinner. After dinner, enjoy live music around the bonfire.

Casablanca
OPTIONAL: Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Remember it gets cold in the desert overnight, so don't forget your jacket! Enjoy a traditional Moroccan breakfast at the camp. Depart camp via camel (or SUV if one camel was enough for you!). Meet up with your driver once more, and make the long journey back to Casablanca.

Megan and Winnie were fabulous setting up the trip ahead of time, including everything I hoped to see and answering any questions. Everything was clear and easy. Hassan Amraoui was my driver and he did a fabulous job interpreting, telling me about the history, and coordinating things in each city. I highly recommend this company and each of its people. They made my experience an amazing one! Thank you!

I did a two week trip with a group of eight friends. Winnie and Meghan planned an itinerary that showed us the highlights of the country. Our guide Hassan was the best, he looked after us, understood how to gauge the energy (and had patience) with a group of 8 active women who like to shop. We saw so much of Morocoo and felt the warmth of the culture. Highly recommend.

I was connected to Wanderlust Voyages via the KimKim website. I was very drawn to the idea of doing a customizable trip for Morocco, as I like doing a lot of my own research on sites/restaurants/hotels, yet needed an expert to facilitate logistics, in particular with transportation. Megan from Wanderlust was great in working with me on giving me recommendations and leeway with what we wanted to do, thus not having to be 'stuck' with a rigid group tour schedule. Pricing was quite reasonable. Once we were actually underway, I can not express enough praise/compliments for our driver, Hamid, who just made our trip such a pleasure. He was very professional yet friendly/hospitable, and was very punctual with all our agreed-on times. He essentially was our local country host--with all our hours on the road, we learned so much about the culture/history of Morocco, especially of the Berber people. The highlight of the trip was the Sahara desert/camel ride, with Hamid then taking us to his local village where we met his family and visited a local non-tourist marketplace. What an experience to be immersed in a way of life with such a rich history. It reminded me why we have missed travel so dearly because of COVID. A big thanks to Hamid and Wanderlust!

My 29 year old daughter and I had a fabulous trip via Wanderlust Voyages. The trip was structured very well, worked for the time frames we had available and the driver as well as the guides were really great. We felt safe and comfortable through out the whole trip. Our driver, Aziz Karaoui, was awesome. He took excellent care of us: he was early every day, very considerate in insuring we had an appropriate number of breaks during the long drives, he was extremely knowledge about the Moroccan culture and each of the stops we made. Each day he was very professionally dressed, continually put our needs first - he followed up every day to make sure our accommodations were acceptable and to see if we needed anything ruse - this was after he had already dropped us off for the day. The best compliment I can give him is that he made us feel Like was a trusted family friend looking out for us all week. We could also tell that Aziz was very much liked and respected by the other guides. The individual tour guides were also excellent - Kamal from the Fes Medina was a wealth of information - it was impressive how well he knew the Medina and all related information. Yoder from the Marrakech Medina was also very nice and knowledgeable. Overall a trip of a life time made even better by those that assisted us.

I'll let everyone else tell you about how good Megan Lower and her team of Belghit and Ibrahim (great job brother) and Kamal will do when things are normal. But what about when things go wrong? Covid necessitated me changing my dates three times. No Problem. Then, while I was in country, Morocco decided to lock down. No Problem. Multiple alterations were made for me, things were rearranged and I was gotten to the airport in time to beat the deadline out. But then my flight out of Casablanca was canceled. Even though Wanderlust was technically free of me, they returned to the airport and got me to Marrakech where, Megan thought, the odds of a repatriation flight would be better. She was correct. The way you know when a team of people are good at their jobs is when everything goes wrong and they somehow still make it right. That's what happened to me.

We had a marvellous trip, thank you Wanderlust! Morocco is a delightful country that has captured our hearts and minds. We had top notch stays at beautiful and luxurious hotels. We would like to mention among the excellent service we were provided , our driver/guide Omar. We’ve travelled 4 continents and many countries and we can say that we’ve never came across such an excellent person such as Omar. He had all the qualities you’d want in a guide. He was very responsible, punctual, knowledgeable and polite as a person. He knew the history and culture of the places we’ve visited as if he was a history professor. He was incredibly attentive to our needs and went way beyond the customary to make us feel safe and secure. A terrific driver as well! An incredible ambassador of his country and an invaluable guide for us. Very thankful, Claudio & Marcela Dicovskiy.

We had an 8 day tour taking us from Marrakech to Fez and then across the Atlas Mountains into the desert. Our driver was Hamid and we loved him. He was a very safe driver and just as importantly he cared about us — always asking when we wanted to stop, never rushing, and generously pointing out cultural sites. Hamid helped us to better understand all the different Morocco’s to be experienced. Kimkim was always available to us and ready to modify the agenda as requested. I can recommend the agency without reservation.
