Entebbe
Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be greeted by your driver/trip manager who will transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe.
If you arrive early in the day, there are optional activities available to introduce you to Uganda, such as nature walks in the botanical gardens, strolls through local markets and malls, and a boat ride to Mabamba Swamps to track the prehistoric giant bird. Many foreign tourists opt for Shoebill tracking, which incurs an additional charge.
Rwakobo Rock Lodge, a mid-range safari lodge.
Lake Mburo National Park
Start your day with a delightful breakfast and embark on a scenic journey to Western Uganda through the stunning landscapes of central Uganda, featuring vast cultivated plains, banana plantations, and cattle farms. Make a brief stop at Mpambire to observe the production of traditional and local artifacts. Don't miss the opportunity to capture a few Instagram-worthy moments at the equator stop. Arrive at the Rwakobo Rock Lodge in time for a delicious lunch.
Lake Mburo National Park
Enjoy a satisfying lunch at the lodge, then embark on a game drive to encounter local wildlife such as buffalo, impala, zebra, eland, warthogs, and bushbuck. For additional adventures, consider a one-hour boat safari to see crocodiles, hippos, and numerous water birds or a horseback safari (at an additional cost).
Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, a mid-range to luxury eco-lodge.
Lake Mburo National Park
Join your guide for a sunrise game drive on the savannah tracks before leaving the park and heading towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. During the drive, you may spot popular game animals such as leopards, buffalo, impala, zebra, eland, warthogs, and bushbuck. Be prepared to wake up early for this exciting adventure.
As you travel through southwestern Uganda, take in the breathtaking scenery of rolling hills, tea plantations, and tropical rainforests. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the rugged and majestic Virunga Volcanos in the distance. Your journey will take you through Mbarara and Kabale before arriving at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge. A 32-km countryside dirt road will lead you to the lodge, which is situated on a magnificent ridge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The lodge boasts ten luxurious cottages that offer stunning views of the surrounding Tuscany-like landscapes.
Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
You will need to wake up early and have breakfast before your driver takes you to the visitor's center for a pre-trekking briefing with the park rangers at 7:30 am. Following the briefing, you will be assigned a gorilla group, two armed rangers for your security, and a tracker guide to lead you on your trekking adventure in the forest. The amount of time you will spend in the forest cannot be predetermined, but it could take hours before you locate the gorilla group. Therefore, it is essential to prepare yourself both physically and emotionally for this experience. Once you find the gorillas, you will be able to observe them for an hour with critical guidance from the rangers before being guided out of the forest.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
If you're up for a walk, you can join the Batwa cultural elders on a forest trail to learn about the history of a tribe that once lived in the Impenetrable Forest. The Buniga Forest trail is located near the lodge and includes a re-enactment of the tribe's daily life and experiences in the rainforest before it became a National Park. Traditional leaders will be leading the way.
Katara Lodge, a mid-range safari lodge.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
One of the most popular and pioneering activities for our travelers is hiking on the ancient walking trails through the mystical Bwindi jungle. This journey takes you from the Nkuringo south side to the Buhoma visitor center in the north. As you enter the forest gates, you will be amazed by the majestic beauty of the ancient jungle and forget all your city estimates of greatness. You will be guided by a local expert for 4-5 hours, sharing ancient tales and incredible forest knowledge and bringing you closer to being one with nature. With luck, you may even encounter wild forest inhabitants such as chimps, forest elephants, duikers, forest buffalo, and more.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
At the other end of the walking trail, your driver will be waiting to take you through the Ishasha savannah plains, where you can catch a glimpse of the incredible tree-climbing lions. Unlike other lions, the Ishasha tree-climbing lions are known for their ability to climb trees, often lounging in the branches for hours on end. Scientists believe this behavior results from the lions' desire to escape the hot sun and avoid pesky insects on the ground. They also adapt to their surroundings, where the trees are more robust and provide excellent hiding spots for prey. You'll arrive at your safari Lodge just in time for dinner.
Turaco Treetops Lodge, a mid-range forest lodge.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Get a chance to reach close to Africa safari's big game players on an early morning or evening game drive and afternoon boat safari on Kazinga Channel, famous for hosting the largest population of hippos. While on a game drive on Kasenyi tracks, you will encounter animals like enormous herds of elephants and buffalo. You'll also spot many interesting antelope species, such as Uganda kob, topi, and bushbuck. The giant forest hog is unusually easy to spot. Search around the Kasenyi tracks for the elusive leopard.
Kazinga Channel
After lunch, you'll board a safari boat for a Kazinga Channel safari trip at 14:00; you can catch sight of elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, Uganda kob, and large hippo pods daily. Keep an eye open for the enormous water monitor lizard, common in the riverine scrub, and crocodiles. You'll also see the giant forest hog, leopard, and lion. The odds of seeing predators and other nocturnal creatures coming to drink are highest in the afternoon.
Kibale National Park
In the late afternoon, the driver will travel west on the highway with the stunning backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. You will arrive at Kibale National Park in time for dinner and spend the next two nights there.
Turaco Treetops, a mid-range lodge.
Kibale National Park
Wake up early and head to the visitor center by 7:30 am. With over 1500 chimpanzees under the park's rainforest canopy and a dozen other primate species, Kibale is renowned for having the highest density of primates in Africa, making it the perfect place to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. During your morning trek, you might come across other primates such as the rare L'Hoest's monkey and red colobus monkey, black & white colobus, red-tailed monkey, blue monkey, olive baboon, and grey-cheeked mangabey. However, your main objective will be to find a troop of human-habituated chimpanzees. Accompanied by an expert tracker, you'll venture into the jungle in small groups, keeping an eye out for signs of the chimpanzees' whereabouts and listening for their loud calls. The experience can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the habituated chimpanzee troop.
Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary
In the afternoon, after your lunch, you have the option to join a local guide in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk. The sanctuary is home to over 200 bird species, including the great blue turaco, and primates such as the black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, and red-tailed monkey. Visitors can take guided nature walks through the sanctuary to observe these amazing creatures in their natural habitat and learn about the various plant species in the wetland ecosystem. In addition to the wildlife, the sanctuary also offers cultural experiences, such as visits to the nearby Bigodi village, where visitors can learn about the local customs and way of life. The sanctuary also benefits the local community by providing sustainable livelihoods through ecotourism.
Entebbe
After enjoying breakfast, take your time to gather your belongings in the morning hours. You will then embark on a scenic drive through Fort Portal, with the beautiful Rwenzori mountains accompanying you as you exit western Uganda and head towards Entebbe via Kampala. Once you arrive at Entebbe, you are welcome to freshen up at the Papyrus Guest House before catching your international flight back home. Please note that accommodation for this day is not included, but we are happy to assist you in booking a room according to your preferences.

I reached out to multiple safari providers for this adventure and Moreen Tumushabe was the most responsive, answered all my questions promptly, and gave us a fair price. Jack was our driver for this adventure - he was fantastic! Always on time, vehicle was always clean, was a safe and very efficient driver and he had a wealth of knowledge about Uganda and the incredible creatures that call this country their home. He selected particular guides that he knows personally for the 2 gorilla treks and 1 chimpanzee trek that we did. These guides/rangers made us feel like VIP's and always ensured we had a front row seat for all the action. We also had a river safari on the Kazinga Channel as well as a Shoebill Stork boat trip. Both of these were private - just us and the boat captain, again selected especially for us by Jack. We stayed at A & K Gorilla Forest Lodge, Elephant Plains Lodge, Kyaninga Lodge & the Protea Marriott in Entebbe at the beginning and end of the trip. Look no further.....book your trip with Nkuringo Safaris!!!

My wife was heading to Uganda for several weeks of work activities, and we had been wanting to visit Africa for years. She did some research on safari operators in Uganda that included opportunities to try and see gorillas, chimpanzees, big cats and the many ungulates of the savanah habitats in Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Parks. Nkuringo not only sounded like an operator that could meet our needs, they fulfilled our wishes perfectly over the 8-day safari. Our coordinator for the safari, Moreen, went above and beyond to develop our itinerary to match timing of our separate arrivals to Entebbe, making sure that I had a wonderful place to stay upon arrival. She and our safari guide, Emma, met me at the airport and helped me through a rough start with lost baggage (recovered the next day, thankfully). Moreen was there to welcome my wife when she rejoined me in Entebbe prior to our morning start on the safari with Emma. Emma was quick to probe our interests and adapt our time on game drives and en route to destinations to find great opportunities to for wildlife and cultural experiences. He possesses a wealth of knowledge on the landscapes, communities, culture, and plants and animals, and he patiently answered our barrage of questions on a breadth of topics. During our safari, we were fortunate to see many key species, including lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, chimpanzees, gorillas, gentle/blue monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, numerous kingfishers, woolly-necked storks, and so many more! Emma’s sharp eyes didn’t seem to miss anything on the drives, and he knew where to go in every park when something a little less common might be found. We also met local experts on guided community walks that exposed us to beautiful places and people along the way, and we found those additional experiences of incredible value and interest. Moreen was there to meet with us and gather feedback on our safari experience when we returned to Entebbe. She also accompanied us to the airport when we made our bittersweet departure from wonderful Uganda. We are already dreaming about a northeastern Uganda safari experience someday to try and find cheetahs, gazelle, and other wildlife that are in that part of the country. We will be working with Moreen and Emma again if we can pull that trip off! Without any reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend Nkuringo Safaris for anyone planning an African safari experience. Did I mention that Uganda is also the country you definitely want to visit as they literally have it all, including the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered?

We had a fantastic tour of Uganda with Nkuringo Safaris and Jack as our guide. The chimp and gorilla tracking experiences were even more incredible than we could have imagined. Hands down the best wildlife experience we’ve ever had! The boat safari and walking safari were also amazing, as were the regular game drives, with close-up views of elephants, hippos, giraffes, antelope, monkeys and more. Jack was the most wonderful guide — kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, responsible, and passionate about sharing the beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and cultures of Uganda (and a great driver!). We felt extremely well taken care of the entire time. All our accommodations were high quality with great service and delicious food. Highly recommended!!

We had an absolutely sensational time in Uganda — thanks to the metoculous, “spot on” prepayion by Nkuringo tours. Of all the company’s contributions, there was none more exceptional than the guide (Jack Tkierebere) assigned to us. Jack drove brilliantly while shedding light on every aspect of our experience with his vast knowledge of his beloved country. It was an unforgettable, unequaled trip.

Many years ago we watched a nature program where people were getting up close with wild Mountain Gorillas and we said we need to do that someday. That “someday” came this year when we booked our Rwanda/Uganda adventure with #NkuringoSafaris and cannot think of a single thing that wasn’t perfect. Our driver Patrick Yiga picked us up at Kilgali airport and from that moment on he managed our itinerary perfectly. Not only did he drive us around Rwanda and Uganda but provided us with information about what we were seeing. Patrick has a great sense of humour and we shared many laughs both at his and our expense which made the hours in the Land Cruiser fly by. By the end of the trip when he dropped us at the Entebbe airport we had become good friends. A true professional and a real gentleman. As I stated our adventure started in Kilgali where we visited the Genocide Memorial. A somber experience but one which I felt necessary to experience. While in Kilgali we stayed at #TheHeavenBoutiqueHotel, a beautiful property with an African and Fusion Restaurant. The service was fantastic as it was all over Rwanda and Uganda. The staff went over and above our expectations. From there we went to #IngagiParkViewLodge. Once again the service was incredible. They had a very nice guitar which they allowed me to play. We visited the #DianFosseyCentre and #TheIby'wachuCulturalVillage. The next day we drove into Uganda. Both countries are stunningly beautiful and safe. Even though we came within 10 kms of the Congo border where fighting was going on we never felt any danger whatsoever. We checked into #TheNkuringoBwindiGorillaLodge high up in the forest. A spectacular room with spectacular views awaited us and our personal host, Friday looked after our every need. They even clean our mud cover hiking boots and gaiters. Now for the reason we went, the Gorilla Habituation hike. There are two options, Gorilla Treking and the Gorilla Habituation. We chose the habituation for a couple of reasons. First it’s a much smaller group (4 clients plus our guide. We also hired porters which I would strongly recommend. Not only do they carry your pack but are also there to help you over any tricky spots. It can be muddy and very steep in places and having them there to help was a godsend. The second reason we chose the habituation is that once you find the gorillas you get to spend 4 hours with them. We hiked 3.5 hours over some pretty extreme terrain so you should be in fairly good physical shape. My wife and I are 68 and 67 but it fairly good shape but even so after 3.5 hours in, 4 hours following the gorillas and then 3.5 hours we slept very well that night. We got within touching distance of some of the females and their babies but a much more respectful 2-3 meters from the huge Silverback. Exhausting but absolutely incredible. We then moved on to #TuracoTreeTopsLodge. Again a beautiful lodge with impeccable service. We got to visit a Batwa village, the indigenous Ugandans who up until recently lived in the forest. The final adventure was Chimpanzee tracking. Not as exhausting as the gorilla tracking but still tiring. Once again we got within a meter on some very large chimps and observed them for an hour. Some recommendations. #NkuringoSafaris gave us a checklist of things to bring and I would highly recommend all of them, especially the gaiters. They protect your legs from ticks etc, but a few times I sunk into the mud. Without the gaiters I would have had a boot full of mud and water. Gloves are essential too as there are sharp nettles and don’t forget your masks. We underestimated the weather. It can get quit chilly in the lodges as they are at elevation so be sure to bring warmer clothes in addition to shorts and tees. We ended our trip in Entebbe at #Karibuguesthouse, a beautiful property only minutes from the Entebbe airport. Thank you to #NkuringoSafaris and our driver and now good friend Patrick Yiga. This was truly an adventure we will never forget.

We did an 8 day tour with Remmy, and it was amazing. All the places we visited were magnificent and everything was organized perfectly. Before booking the tour I thought that the many hours in the car would be a problem, but with Remmy, our guide, they were an added value: traveling by car we saw breathtaking views and breathed the soul of this incredible country. He is special, competent, friendly and kind, organized and never saves himself but always tried to offer us the best experience. We can't wait to organize another trip with Remmy and Nkuringo safaris because we had a great time!

Once in a lifetime experience! Remmy our guide was excellent, and always ready to answer any questions we had. He also must have super-eyesight as he managed to spot so many animals whilst driving us around! Always felt safe when travelling with him and he was always on-hand to provide assistance with anything we needed! All the lodges organised as part of the trip were outstanding! We particularly enjoyed Ichumbi gorilla Lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest as could sit on the balcony and watch the wildlife!

As experienced travellers, we were looking for new experiences, and Nkuringo Safaris did not disappoint! Led throughout by the wonderful Remmy Kityo, he guided us expertly from the moment we were collected in Kigali, until dropping us off at Entebbe to continue our journey onwards to Tanzania. His personal touch, and knowledge and experience, greatly enriched our experience - which ranged from gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, enjoying the scenic splendour of Murchison Falls and the wildlife of the national park, to bird watching in the Mabamba wetlands. Nkuringo organised a superb trip, with great experiences, wonderful accommodation (including the lovely Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge). Overall, a wonderful experience - thank you Nkuringo Safaris. Would thoroughly recommend and certainly be happy to use their services again.

Our 8 day trip was fantastic! The hikes to see the chimps and gorillas were very fun, and not overly rigorous, which was perfect for us. Our guide, Patrick, was knowledgeable and humorous, and very safety aware. We became friends! The game drives were wonderful as well; we saw so many elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffalo and warthogs. Our days were full and fun, with stunning drives through the hills and mountains. The lodges were exceptional; great food, rooms and views! Excellent trip! Thank you!
