We had a great time on a week-long tour of the Gobi organized by Enza Tours - a very professionally managed company. Enza communicated well before the tour, helped us craft a custom itinerary and was proactive in resolving any issues that came up during the trip. We chose to stay in the luxe gers, which are a higher class of accommodation and have their own attached bathroom. The quality of these varied quite a bit, with some being brand new and very comfortable while others were definitely more run down and basic. The drives are indeed very long (as expected) and there are no roads per se once you get out of the capital region, it's just dirt tracks, so it's quite an adventure getting from one place to another. Our driver was solid, and the vehicle was as comfortable as can be - a big Lexus SUV, which helped make the travel more comfortable. We also loved our guide Amy. She took really good care of us throughout the tour, was fun to talk to and very attentive - even noting small personal preferences without being told and accommodating them, which we really appreciated. We loved all the beautiful scenery, activities like dune climbing, hiking, and exploring historic sites, as well as the smaller moments when we stopped to chat to some goat herders during a rest stop, or have a milk tea break with a local family in their ger. It was a great trip and I highly recommend Enza tours if you're planning to visit Mongolia.
