Tbilisi

Tbilisi (English: /təbɪˈliːsi, təˈbɪlɪsi/ tə-bih-LEE-see, tə-BIL-ih-see;[7] Georgian: თბილისი [tʰbilisi] (About this soundlisten)), in some countries also still known by its pre-1936 international designation, Tiflis[8] (/ˈtɪflɪs/ TIF-lis),[7] is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.

Old Town Tbilisi

Old Tbilisi (Georgian: ძველი თბილისი, dzveli t'bilisi) was an administrative district (raioni) in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, from 2007 to 2013. Although the term "Old Tbilisi" has long been used to denote a historical part of the city, it was only in 2007 that it became a distinct administrative entity to incorporate several historical neighbourhoods formerly included in the districts of Mtatsminda-Krtsanisi, Isani-Samgori, and Didube-Chughureti. The district was abolished in 2013, with its territories allotted to several other divisions of the capital.

Gergeti Trinity Church

Gergeti Trinity Church (Georgian: წმინდა სამება - Tsminda Sameba) is a popular name for Holy Trinity Church near the village of Gergeti in Georgia. The church is situated on the right bank of the river Chkheri (the left tributary of the river Terek), at an elevation of 2170 meters (7120 feet), under Mount Kazbek.

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is located in the central part of Georgia and creates the eastern part of the lesser Caucasus Mountains. The total area amounts to 104,933 ha, which is more than 1,5% of the territory of Georgia. Borjomi-Kharagauli Protected Areas includes 6 districts - Borjomi, Kharagauli, Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Khashuri and Baghdati. Administrative and visitors centres of the national park are located in Borjomi and Kharagauli. The park administration manages 4 various types of protected areas – Borjomi Nature Reserve, Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, Nedzvi Managed Reserve and Goderdzi fossil forest Natural Monument.

Algeti

Algeti National Park is located in Tetritskaro district. It comprises the southern slopes of the eastern area of Trialeti mountain range in the Algeti river gorge and is located at an altitude of 1,100-1,950 m above sea level.

Vashlovani National Park

Vashlovani National Park (Georgian: ვაშლოვანის ეროვნული პარკი ) is a national park located in the eastern part of Georgia, and was established in 1935 to preserve its unique shallow forests. In April 2003 the Reserve's area was expanded to 84.80 km² and Vashlovani National Park (251.14 km²) was made. The area is characterized by its dry climate sitting only 150-50 meters above sea level.
