Auckland is rich in Māori and European history, and this dynamic city has a wealth of stories that define it. On this 90-minute self-guided walking tour, I’ll share tales of the pioneering people and events that shaped this vibrant waterfront metropolis. You’ll explore the heart of Auckland’s central business district, and learn about the city’s volcanic origins.
The tour begins at Khartoum Place, where you’ll find out how New Zealand made history as the first country to grant women the right to vote. As we wander through the stunning Albert Park, I’ll share the Māori legend of the god of earthquakes and volcanoes, and the dramatic story of how Auckland, or Tāmaki Makaurau, came to be.

This tour was great. We got into Auckland late in the afternoon and were able to continue the tour the next day. Really liked that we could go at our own pace.

I really enjoyed this self-guided walking tour. It was very easy to follow, and the tour itself was very informative and interesting. It took me to parts of the city I had not discovered on my own. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to do things at their own pace.

A nicely put together self-guided tour, well-paced and produced. Ideal for a few hours solo in Auckland. Definitely saw some interesting things and learnt facts that what otherwise have passed me by. Economical and flexible

we thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour! Interesting and diverse, app excellent, got off track a couple of times but referred to map on phone screen and it was easy to correct. Will be doing more voicemap tours, a great way to experience a city.

Wonderful stories and history. Easy to walk at our own pace. Our only problem was it had been downloaded since we do not have cell service here, so when we paused it would not pick up where we had left off.

Oh my gosh, this was perfect for us! We wanted to learn about the history and behind-the-scenes places of Auckland, but didn’t want to be with a group or stuck with a guide. We spent about 4 hours (because we made so many stops to linger) and had a delightful day exploring Albert Park, the University of Auckland, a street fair, an amazing chocolatier where the owner gave us samples, and discovered a restaurant in an art deco hotel where we’ll be returning for dinner tonight. And a plus, the tour ended right at our hotel: the Hilton. Loved it!

Very safe, incredible experience. Rachel and Scott were very friendly whilst maintaining safety protocols and standards. The Altitude experience was amazing in particular the three ziplines. Well done on an incredible 700 metre course!

Paula’s calm and peaceful voice is the perfect companion for this informative, enlightening audio tour around historically interesting parts of Auckland; with lots of surprises and recommendations thrown in. As an Aucklander I recommend every local needs to download this very reasonably priced guided walk. I learnt so much about a city I’ve lived in all my life! For tourists, it’s a MUST DO when you first arrive in Auckland! It takes you over a large part of the inner city, therefore great for your initial orientation and fills you up with fascinating knowledge!

It was really nice. I got lost once & the app does NOT help you find your way as stated but it was still very educational. The reference to certain shops was nice, especially the Queens bar at the end.
