Ateshgah - Fire Temple

The temple of fire worshippers Ateshgah is located at the Apsheron peninsula at the outskirts of Surakhani village in 30 km from the centre of Baku and was revered in different times by Zoroastrians, Hindus and Sikhs. This territory is known for such unique natural phenomenon as burning natural gas outlets (underground gas coming onto surface contacts oxygen and lights up). The temple in its present state was constructed in the 17th-18th centuries. It was built by the Baku-based Hindu community related to Sikhs. Pentagonal complex has an open courtyard with temple-altar in the center which was the place of pilgrimage for worshippers.

Mardakan Castle

Mardakan Quadrangular Castle (12th century) This imposing rectangular fortress was built in 1187–88 by order of Ahsitan I, son of Shirvanshah Manuchehr III, to commemorate a military victory. A carved inscription with his name and the date can still be seen on its main tower. The structure stands 22 meters tall and features five internal levels connected by a spiral staircase. It’s about a century younger — and 10 meters taller — than the nearby Round Castle. Tuba-Shakhi Mosque (15th century) Located in Mardakan village, this mosque is a rare example of Northern Azerbaijani religious architecture. Built in the 15th century, it was named after a woman who commissioned its construction — a testament to the important role women sometimes played in public life during that time.

I fell in love with Azerbaijan, and of course Baku, 10 years ago on my first visit. Since then I have not missed the opportunity to visit here. Some may be surprised, but there are so many places to visit, and Baku is changing and transforming every year. This time I traveled with a friend and I wanted her to fall in love with Azerbaijan too. While still in Samara, I contacted AzTerra via WhatsApp and booked us a tour of Absheron, Ateshgah, Yanardag, and the Mardakan Fortress. We were lucky with our guide Farman. This is a young man, a professional in his field, an intellectual, comprehensively educated, excellent command of the Russian language and an amazing storyteller. Not a single question was left unanswered. After all, it is through the guide, his presentation of information, emotions, his attitude to history that our idea of the country, our impressions are formed. I received a lot of information that I wanted to study in detail. I recommend excursions around Azerbajan to everyone with AzTerra and guide Farman. Azerbaijan, beloved hospitable, stunningly beautiful sunny Baku - forever in my heart!

Visited Baku with a company of 4 people, took a tour of Absheron and booked transfers from/to the airport. The tour was ordered from Russia. There were no problems with prepayment and booking, manager Victoria offered some convenient options. Travel in a comfortable minivan. The driver and the tour guide turned out to be professionals and just good people. I recommend that you consult the services of this AzTerra.

From 5.01.20 to 9.01.20 visited the city of Baku as a family. Booked transfers and excursion packages top 3 from Az Terra Travel. Everything from the transfer to all the excursions was arranged at the highest level. Very competent guide, very educational tours. Everything really liked it!!! I want to come back here again!

Were in Baku in late March by a company of six. Nowruz, beauty, but few people and what works. It's good to have stocked up on this company's phone at home - they work on the holiday too, and at an excellent level! We gave us all the tours when we wanted (by date and time of day) and where we wanted (chose 2 places from different tours, for example). Everything is clearly organized, complete punctuality, and the guide is absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much! The fire worshippers' temple is interesting, there's a museum, a lot of what the guide tells you, you see with your own eyes - there are made figures of people. And Yanardag - a place where gas oozes and burns at the foot of the hill, you must see! You won't see that anywhere else. I also liked the tour of the night Bak - a stunning new mosque with lighting, a view of the whole city. Just dress warmer - it gets cold quickly as night falls. And absolutely stunning Gobustan with mud volcanoes "for dessert" - highly, highly recommended! Thanks again!
