If you dream of experiencing the magic of Guatemala’s volcanoes without an intense hike, this shared 4x4 Acatenango adventure is the perfect choice. Travel high up the volcano in a comfortable 4WD vehicle and enjoy a scenic walk of about 1.5 hours to reach spectacular viewpoints near the summit. Along the way, take in breathtaking landscapes, crisp mountain air, and unforgettable views of the surrounding volcanoes. Depending on the schedule, you may witness a stunning sunset painting the sky or a magical sunrise above the clouds. Note: The local tour guide is from a nearby indigenous community. The local tour guide can guide you in Spanish, and if you speak English, they can give you general instructions in English; however, they are not 100% bilingual.

This tour requires a minimum of 3 participants. Solo travelers can book it, but if at least 2 other people do not book, we reserve the right to cancel. We can offer you the option of changing the date.
This tour is conducted in Spanish. Our guides are from a nearby local community and speak basic English to provide general instructions.
Our offices are located outside Antigua, near the base of Acatenango Volcano.

If no availability, an alternative date will be offered
During high season, such as Holy Week, the Flower Festival, or any other event that closes off the city, the meeting point will be outside Antigua, as no vehicles are allowed to enter.
During the rainy season, weather conditions may include heavy rainfall, electrical storms, or unexpected obstacles such as fallen trees that could affect access to the volcano. In such cases, we may be required to reschedule the activity or cancel it for safety reasons.

Antigua
We will start this tour by picking you up at the lobby of your hotel or accommodation in Antigua Guatemala. The time to get to the base of Acatenango Volcano from Antigua is around 1 hour.
Acatenango
The 4WD vehicle will take us up to 80% of the road, and the rest of the way we will go on foot. The car ride will take us around 60-90 minutes, and we will appreciate different landscapes along the way. This is a shared tour to see the sunrise or the sunset. Then, we will begin our hike to the summit once we arrive at the vehicle drop-off point. This is the last part of the volcano, the tip. This hike requires good physical condition, both muscular and endurance, as the path is quite steep and sandy. It will take us one and a half to two hours to walk to the top, but the scenery will make it all worth it.

Not an easy hike, but worth it!

5.00The tour was taken care of end to end. The guides managed everything with precision. We started the trip as 12 am at night and then went to Antigua for the gear and transfer to 4x4. We started the hike at 1 am and it was beautiful. The guide who climbed with us was very nice and understanding. It is not an easy hike, we wanted to give up mid way but our guide pushed us (glad he did!) and the sunrise was beautiful! When we came back, they gave us pancakes. My only complain would be the driver for the 4x4 (nice overall) started taking calls while driving. We we already up the whole night and the non stop talking gave a headache.

5.00Very well organized, knowledgeable, and communicative company, driver, and guide. Mother nature you cannot control and almost threw us a curveball, but it cleared just in time and had an unforgettable experience with above the cloud increadible views, wildflowers of all colors, and the highlight an eruption of Volcan Fuego next door @ summit. Highly recommended, tough hike with altitude but doable for most decently in shape.

4.00Seeing the lava spew out of the volcano at night. However the meal was not a gourmet meal. It was chicken breast and a bag salad. It was ok but definitely not gourmet.

5.00Very cool experience and Juan-Miguel did a great job. We did the harder climb to the Acatenango summit which was very cool and worthwhile. Bring hiking shoes and layers since it's warm at the start and colder, windy at the top.
