There are no activities planned for your first day for you to be able to explore the beautiful city of Quito on your own terms, but if you feel like having a guided day tour at extra cost, do not hesitate in contacting us. We are always more than happy to send you with one of our expert guides to learn more about the city or the surrounded areas Please keep in mind that there is a meeting at 18:00 in the hotel’s lobby the first day to meet your guide and the rest of the group as well as learn about what’s in store for the days of your expedition!

Today in the morning we will be picked up and taken to the airport for a three hour flight to San Cristobal Island in Galapagos. Upon arrival we will check in at the hotel and have some time for lunch accompanied by the fresh Pacific breeze. In the afternoon we will visit the Interpretation (welcome) centre of the National Park to learn from a seasoned Naturalist guide to learn about the archipelago, and its role in environment research and preservation as well as many of the animals that can be found residing there. Later we will go hiking through the brush forest path that leads us to Frigate Hill, a lovely viewpoint on the island, after of which we will and have a chance to go snorkeling in search of lazy sea lions, graceful and impressive sea turtles and colorful fish. In the late afternoon we will go back to the hotel.

We start our day hopping on the boat for a fifty minute ride through sapphire blue waters to one of the most jaw-dropping places in the Galapagos, Kicker rock. Towering 500 feet over the surface this is the volcanic formation is the doorway to some of the best chances of wildlife sightings. Here we will take a dip beneath the waves through the channel that cuts through the middle of the formation for the chance to encounter white tip reef sharks, rays, sea lions, turtles, an array of fish and if luck is on our side, even hammer head sharks. We will have two opportunities to explore this underwater paradise followed by visit one of the pure white sand beaches forming the reserve. Lunch will be served on board. Our day ends heading back to the town where you will be able to explore on foot and enjoy the serenity of a night in the Galapagos.

After an early breakfast, we will take the island hopper plane to Isabela Island one of the youngest islands in the Galapagos. Isabela is mostly uninhabited and remains a sanctuary for wildlife, being home to animals such as iguanas, flamingos, giant tortoises and even penguins. Once we arrive we will have free time to explore and have lunch. In the afternoon we will go kayaking to Tintoreras, and islet of jagged volcanic rock that form small underwater canyons thriving with wildlife. Be on the look out for feisty penguins and blue-footed boobies! Want to get the view from above and below? Get up close and personal by submerging in serene crystal waters in search of more varieties of fish, turtles, and sea lions

The Wall of Tears
After breakfast we will head out on our next day of Adventure- biking along an exclusive road around the side of the island. Each stop on our journey will take us to leisurely walking trails with impressive views of the different landscapes and immerse us in the diverse ecosystem of the island. Highlighting our ride our stops at Playa del Amor and the Tortoise Breeding Center. Playa del Amor, or Love Beach, is home to the largest population of iguanas on the Island. Lounging about, these creatures are exclusive to the Galapagos and are marine animals, having the ability to forage underwater. At the Tortoise breeding center we will learn of the impressive efforts of workers at the National Park in the preservation of the tortoise population. Our day finishes after five hours of exploration though richly diverse environments at the Flamingo lagoon. Once back in town you will be able to enjoy the golden sunset amidst the gentle sounds of crashing waves.

Enter a world like no other at Los Tunneles. Famous for its arch like volcanic formations this is an ecosystem brimming different species of animals is nesting ground for blue- footed boobies. Possible sightings include white-tip reef sharks, penguins, golden and eagle rays, among many others! Explore the area above and below as our days expeditions takes us by boat, snorkeling as well as on foot. Lunch will be served on board and after we will travel back to town.

Seize the day with an early rise and boat right two hours to the Island of Santa Cruz home to the Charles Darwin Research Station. Witness the tireless efforts of researchers and conservationist and learn about how they are helping to repopulate the island with different species of tortoise. Although you will see many different types of tortoise at the station’s breeding center, our second stop of the day will take us up to ‘El Chato’ reserve in the highlands for an up close and personal experience to see them in their natural habitat. Explore the lava tunnels that dot the property while watching the gentle giants lounge around in the mud these are truly impressive creatures! Our day ends returning to town where you can enjoy the even taking a stroll through Puerto Ayora. We recommend heading down to the boat docks at night as sharks and rays can be spotted playing in the lights below.

5.00Had an awesome time in Galapagos arranged by Active Expeditions. Everything was well organised and ran smoothly. It was particularly comforting having someone waiting for us at each destination. Guides were great and full of information. Just 1 problem with a transfer between islands, but it was dealt with swiftly and professionally by Christian, which really made a huge difference and kept our stress levels to a minimum. Also really appreciated Christian's quick responses and assistance while we were working out the itinerary. Very happy to recommend Active Expeditions.

5.00Bucket list ✔️ ❤️ Fantastic active vacation! All the complications of managing logistics when traveling were taken care of!! We love the diving excursions at Kicker Rock and off Santa Cruz Island! The hiking to volcanos and lagoons were picturesque and exciting! And the wildlife was spectacular! We look forward to planning future excursions with Active Expedition!

5.00These guys are top notch. We spent two weeks with Activexpedition traveling throughout Ecuador, including the Galapagos and the Amazon. The accommodations were stellar, our numerous hosts along the way were courteous and extremely knowledgeable, the food was fantastic (many gluten free and vegan options were available) and we were in good hands with the excellent drivers - very important while winding through the Andes. They are passionate about preserving the integrity of the rainforests and marine life and very respectful of the Indigenous communities we met along the way / and always looking to have some fun. The trip of a lifetime. Highly recommended!

5.00Our itinerary included hiking, biking and snorkeling. Our guides were very passionate & knowledgeable. Accommodations and transportation (boat, train & bus) were absolutely first class. The tour even included a visit and tour of a local beer brewery and wine tasting on the beach in front of our hotel. The most amazing sightings of penguins, seahorses, rays, sharks, giant tortoises, sea lions, blue footed boobies and many more bird species. This has been the most amazing and exciting trip of a lifetime

5.00I could not recommend this trip more! The guides were amazing, the places we went to were stunning and the activities were so much fun! During my trip I went biking, swimming, canyoning, snorkelling, rafting, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding and hiking! And if there is anything you don’t want to do, or do more of you can always personalise your trip which is great! The guides are knowledgeable and can answer any question, and all the guides I had spoke English well. They’re great company and always made sure i was safe. It’s a perfect trip to see different parts of what the country has to offer starting off in Quito, then to Galapagos, then to the jungle and finishing off in the Andes. I made memories for life and will definitely come back and spend more time in this wonderful country. As a female solo traveler who wanted to visit Ecuador it was perfect! I always felt safe and looked after, and it was nice having the reassurance that there was always someone there to help me and look after me. I absolutely loved it! It is such an easy way of exploring a country, learning about culture and history whilst always having things to do.

5.00We went on a tour with Active Adventures, our favorite tour company to The Galapagos Islands. Stayed on four islands. Snorkeled, hiked, biked, Saw blue footed boobies, big land tortoises, and over all had a wonderful experience. We actually went in May of 2017.

5.00This was a trip of a lifetime guided by Christian and ActivExpedition. If you love nature and animals, you will have an amazing experience! The unique volcanic landscape combined with the gorgeous beaches, and incredible lava tunnels will make you want to stay for a long time! You will learn all about the islands, the history, the landscape, and the wildlife! We enjoyed snorkeling, swimming, hiking, biking, kayaking, and taking photos of all the amazing wildlife - turtles, tortoises, iguanas, rays, sharks, sea horses, and so many birds! (Flamingos, blue footed boobies, finches, Darwin vermillion fly catchers, and more!) And, it was so evident how much the people of Ecuador and the Galapagos islands take pride in creating sustainable tourism that focuses on protecting the landscape, wildlife, and local people. We stayed in beautiful hotels with delicious breakfasts served to us each morning. Christian had thought of every detail and I can't recommend this trip enough!

5.00What an amazing experience!! My husband and I traveled with friends to Ecuador in February 2023. Christian with ActivExpedition was our guide during our visit to the Galapagos Islands. He was amazing! He is knowledgeable, friendly, knows the locals, and made sure our group had a great time. We were able to snorkel, hike, sea kayak, and bike during our trip all while seeing incredible wildlife- sea and land turtles, seahorses, flamingos, blue footed boobies, white tipped reef sharks, and eagle rays. A trip to the Galapagos Islands has been on my travel wish list for ages. However, I was unsure where to begin with planning. Christian and ActivExpedition made the planning easy. He arranges all of the travel and equipment rental on the islands, which is a huge help. The hotel accommodations were fantastic, too, with comfortable rooms and views of the ocean. I hope to be able to return to Ecuador soon for a trip with Christian and ActivExpedition to the Amazon.

5.00Wow, that's all I can say about going on an Activexpediition tour with Christian. The flexibility of the schedule (weather, etc) and the choices of activities are fantastic. You really feel like you are traveling with knowledgeable family and not with a tour guide. Christian knows everyone and makes whatever you want to do happen. He becomes an instant friend. He is so knowledgeable about everything! But then, he does have 17 years of experience! You can't beat a sunrise swim outside your hotel room in warm, turquoise water or drinking microbrew at a local secret. Or snorkeling with penguins, rays, sea turtles. Kicker Rock, Los Tunneles and the Wall of Tears were also terrific. Highly recommended!

5.00When friends asked us to help plan a trip to the Galapagos, we didn't hesitate to recommend Christian and ActivExpedition. This was our third time travelling with him, and it was even more special to introduce him to our friends. Everything is so well planned, lodging is exceptional, transports are safe and efficient. I greatly appreciate the minimal use of single-use plastics when it comes to meals and water. The Galapagos is a fragile place, and it is always disappointing to see other tour groups with plastic water bottles and little regard for the enviroment. The hotels all provide purified water for your personal bottles, and during activities Christian always makes sure there is access to water without using disposables. The activities are accessible to all ages, nicely varied, and well guided. The snorkeling and animal watching is out of this world (albino manta ray!). Take a good camera and a GoPro-style underwater camera if possible. Christian has relationships with all of the good restaurants including local fresh caught seafood, pizza, and of course microbrews where available. The schedule was flexible enough that we even squeezed in a surfing lesson one morning. We had two weeks to fill so we started with a mini-tour before we went to the Galapagos. If you have time, I highly recommend the cloud forest mountain bike ride and spending a day or two in Mindo for bird watching.
