This shore excursion is tailored to history lovers which takes you through the old capital 33 miles deep into the northern countryside of Belize. This area is rich with wildlife including armadillos, squirrels, agouti, paca, foxes, raccoons, bats, coatis and over two hundred species of birds. The Mayan ruin of “Altun Ha" is rich with Mayan history and architecture consisting of two plazas and thirteen buildings, of which you will be able to explore and learn about in sixty minutes of interactive discussion with your guide. Afterward, you will have time for souvenir shopping and lunch. Evidence of the Mayan at Altun Ha dates to 200 B.C. The first major temple was built around A.D. 100 near the principal reservoir, the area that we see now dates to the beginning of the Classic Period (A.D. 250). This was to be the central core of the site for some six centuries. The northern plaza (Plaza A) was the primary ceremonial precinct until close to the end of the Early Classic (around A.D. 550) then work started on Plaza B. As you drive through the old capital, you will be able to view historical landmarks and observe the daily lifestyle of the locals.

5.00There is not a lot there, but it is close to Belize City. You are able to get onto the temples really get a feel for the history

5.00We had such a great time traveling with Paul as our private guide. Paul was so curtious and knowledgable of local history and he took the time to show us around and explain all sorts of fun facts to my family. He was an excellent driver (and I tend to be very critical) and everyone in my family felt safe. We would definitely recommend him as a tour guide.

5.00You HAVE to book with Belize cruise trips anytime you are visiting. We went on a carnival cruise line and our separate excursion was so seamless and fun. Paul was our guide, and he truly felt like family by the end of the day. He was very knowledgeable and charismatic! From the Mayan Ruins to a home cooked meal in his neighborhood, Paul was amazing!!! 10/10 would visit this lovely country again.

5.00Paul is an outstanding tour guide. I tour and travel a lot and I treasure a guide that gives history, current events, and humor in what can be a mundane drive to and from a location(s). We learned many things about Belize, it's people, and it's culture. Paul is very professional and passionate about Belize and what it has to offer.
