In this tour we will dive deep into the life, art and inspiration of Vincent. You will learn why and how Van Gogh started taking up the brush at 27. Discover the importance of his beloved brother Theo in his life, and gain understanding about his relationships and his family. Van Gogh was tormented by his mental difficulties, learn how this shows, next to his genius and his temper, in his masterpieces such as ‘The Potato Eaters’, ‘The Sun Flowers’, ‘The Yellow House’ and ‘The Almond Blossom’. You will get a better understanding about the different artistic periods, for example his ‘dark period’ in Brabant, his experimental period in Paris, and his turbulent time with Gauguin in the yellow house in Arles. Vincent takes his own life at 37, his art dealer brother Theo dies a few months later. So who is the person who makes Vincent famous? Behind every success story of a man stands a great woman..

Lucy was our guide for a tour of the Van Gogh museum in English. First, she proactively contacted us the day before to tell us where and when to meet her. She provided a contact number to reach her in case we had a problem locating her. We used that and she answered immediately. Once the tour began Lucy totally impressed us with her knowledge of Van Gogh and of her love of the topic. She guided us effortlessly through the exhibit providing a level of detail we did not expect. She made it interactive! She asked us what we saw in the paintings and that helped us to understand the time and the artist. At the end of the tour she spent a bit of time explaining the Yellow exhibit and she gave us chocolates! Lucy is warm and friendly. She encouraged questions. We just loved her! Book with Lucy if you can!!

This was a great small group tour and excellent tour guide. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an art history lesson that wove Van Gogh’s personal story with his art in a sequential manner. Loved it!!

Our guide Titia was amazing! We opted for a small group tour of the Van Gogh Museum & we were not disappointed. It was clear from the start Titia was enthusiastic & wanted to share her love of Van Gogh’s art. Titia “artfully” (pun intended) told us the story of Van Gogh’s life through his art, both the ups & downs. She shared his many struggles, as well the endless love & support he received from his brother Theo. Titia even noted very recent theories, that Van Gogh may not have committed suicide as long believed. This guided tour was well worth it.

Liz gave us a tour of selected Van Gogh paintings. And through them we learned about his life and how it was reflected in his paintings. Liz is interesting, knowledgeable, and interacted nicely with the five of us on our tour.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Van Gogh Museum tour with Ank from Amor Artium. Ank’s knowledge and passion for Van Gogh were infectious. She brought his life and work to life in a way that a self-guided or audio tour simply can't match. The small group size made it feel personal and relaxed and the pacing was perfect, never rushed but always engaging. The tour was also very well suited to our group's needs, including my Mom's mobility requirements, which was hugely appreciated. If you're visiting Amsterdam and want to truly understand and appreciate Van Gogh's genius, don't hesitate to book Amor Artium. It was one of the highlights of our entire trip!
