Temple of Augustus

The Temple of Augustus and Rome is an augusteum located in the Altındağ district of Ankara. It is thought to have been built around 25–20 AD. Besides being one of the most important Roman-period ruins in the city, it is also known for the Monumentum Ancyranum. This is an inscription about the works of Augustus, who was considered the first Roman emperor. It is the most complete copy of Res Gestae Divi Augusti that has survived to the present day, as the original in Rome had disappeared.

Column of Julian

Column of Julianus or the popularly known Belkıs Minaresi. It is an obelisk located in Ulus district of Ankara. Julianus, the last pagan Roman emperor, declared war on the Persians in 362 and created a route that would pass through Ankara.

I booked a walking tour to see the real city, not the tourist places. Samaher provided a terrific tour of the castle across from my hotel. Then we walked downhill through old town Ankara to the Metro and took a train into the center of Ankara to see the modern city. She was very knowledgeable and simply wonderful!

Han did a good job of showing us Ankara. He adapted when he realized what he had planned was included on our Road Scholar tour. We enjoyed his youthful approach to his city .

The itinerary published was not adhered to and we didn’t visit any of the places listed. The guide was not qualified to do the tour and was unable to add value or explain basic history of Ankara. It was the first time he had ever done any tour guiding. Tour was overpriced for what was delivered.

Was visiting Ankara for a few days and wanted to see the sights. Sarah was a great guide and great conversationalist. We went to the Ankara Castle, a museum and restaurant that were within walking distance. The kebobs were delicious. If you are visiting Ankara I highly recommend Sarah as a guide.

Kutluhan was an excellent guide. We visited the Temple of. Agustus and Rome, the Baths of Caracula, the Ankara Citadel, and the oldest market. He went out of his way to take us to the market. We learned a lot about other things in the city as we passed them while driving. Kutluhan is an excellent driver as well :)

We took a half day walking tour of the city with Kutluhan. Communication before the tour was excellent and he met us in our hotel lobby on time. The tour was tailored to our interests which was excellent, no visits to a soap factory or carpet workshop! We discovered areas of the old city we’d never been to before and as well as the tour itself it was lovely to chat with someone to learn about the history from a different perspective. I think we overran by about an hour and I’d have no hesitation booking another tour with this team.
