The collections in this museum place an unusual emphasis on the earlier of Anatolia's occupiers, and start with an interesting exhibit of finds from the Catal Huyuk site, often described as the earliest known human community in the world. Other highlights include a collection of tablets, the translations of which remind you how little some things in the world have changed over the millennia.
Ankara Castle
The Citadel overlooks the city and is the acknowledged symbol of Ankara. It is the oldest part of the city, built either by Hittites or Phrygians, people live almost as they did 600 years ago. The region was settled before 2000 BC.

5.00Burak was an excellent guide for the Ankara tour. He is extremely knowledgeable on the history of the city and Turkiye and the museum tour was amazing. In addition, he provided a tour of the city as well. We would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Ankara.

5.00The Agency was able to set up the tour for me in less than 24 hours. The guide was a Scholar! I learned so much on this tour. Oh and the city of Ankara exceeded my expectation. The old town inside the castle walls was probably the highlight of the tour. The guide also gave me helpful hints to continue sightseeing on my own.

5.00My tour guide, Mustafa, gave me a terrific private tour of Ankara. His insights into the city, its history, culture and personality, were wonderful. I also appreciated his willingness to dash through the rain with me so that I was able to experience all that Ankara had to offer. My private car was clean and always ready when we were moving on to our next location. Mustafa's English was wonderful. I felt comfortable asking questions, taking the time to look at the things I wanted to see, and asking for recommendations. As a single woman with a limited amount of time in which to tour, this was the best option I could find. I would definitely recommend this great service and would use Viator again based on this experience!

5.00We hit the major highlights of Ankara with our guide and because it was a private tour we were able to customize some and asked to be taken to a small neighborhood spice and fruit market. We also walked the neighborhood streets and visited local shops. Fun tour!
