Wondering Reindeer is Sami reindeer experience company ho is offering guests authentic Sami adventures.

We offer guests a small group tour (22 pers) around Kvaløya island with majestic mountains and arctic fjords. During the trip around the island, guests will join Sami reindeer herder and his reindeers when he feed the magnificent animals.

When the herd is gathered, there will be an opportunity to feed the animals by hand. Guests will also be gathering in traditional Sami lavvo (Sami tent) around open bonfire to enjoy Joik (traditional Sami songs) and learn more about Sami traditions.

During the roundtrip we will visit Sommarøy Arctic Hotel for lunch/meal made of local ingredients. Sommrøy is a fantastic place and a group of islands in the open sea 1,5 hours driving from Tromsø. Guests will have time to explore Sommrøy by walking around before we leave the fishing community.

Kvaloya

Starts with buss tour on Kvaløya which is an island surrounded by majestic mountains and Arctic fjords. You will enjoy the view of the landscape along the coastal road while we drive. We stop at some suitable places to admire the landscapes we pass.

Visit the Sami reindeer herder and his reindeers. Guests will enjoy the reindeer herder calling for his reindeer. When the herd is gathered, there will be an opportunity to feed the animals by hand. There will be lunch/dinner and plenty of coffee, tea, warm chocolate and biscuits/snacks. If you prefer alcoholic drinks like vin or beer you need to pay separat for this in restaurant

Choose one dish each from the restaurant menu. If restaurant serves large lunch buffet, that will be served instead of food from menu. There are options like vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free.

We had the best day, feeling really privileged to accompany our Sami guide feeding his reindeer, listening to his stories and songs in his lavvu then travelling to Sommaroy to see if we could find more of his herd, and enjoy a decent meal at a local hotel. The thing that really stood out was how welcoming our host (sorry I can’t remember his name), family and friends were. It was a real highlight of our stay in Tromso and I can’t recommend it enough.

We can recommend this trip to everyone. Our guide was very friendly, we got a lot of background information on the Sami culture. Although the weather was changing like every 20 minutes, he managed to be very flexible in the planning, giving us a wonderful experience Feeding the reindeer was a very nice experience

The tour was informative with an eye on Sami culture and history, well organized, the people friendly and the reindeer wonderful. The tour guides who introduced us to Sámi culture and history were Sami, and so it should be. We felt in good hands and I recommend this tour without reservations.

Plenty of stops to see lovely scenery made even better as we were lucky with great weather. Guide was pleasant knowledgable and helpful. Plenty of time with the reindeer and great experience in the Sami hut. Great selection of food at the hotel. Would recommend.

This was not one of the many sightseeing tours you find around! This is the story of a Sami family united and full of values that tells itself. You can see breathtaking landscapes, live the reindeer without stress, eat divinely, visit two islands, joke, hear stories of the Sami, listen to the joik and breathe love for your cultural identity. This is much more you will live with Reino and his whole family.

Beautiful experience, both the tour of the fjords with beautiful landscapes, and the visit to the reindeer farm with an adjoining visit to the tent with drinks and snacks and stories about past and present Sami culture. Finally the visit to the island of summaroy very nice with a great lunch (perhaps the best of my stay in tromso). Finally a round of applause to our extremely courteous and helpful guide. Absolutely recommended

Very nice experience, authentic and beyond my expectations. The outing with the Sami reindeer is done in small committee, which makes the moment pleasant and privileged. Ole is very attentive to his guests and creates a warm and respectful atmosphere. I recommend without hesitation.

Great tour led by our captain cum guide, Ola, it was a delight feeding the reindeers, listening to the Sami lore in a cozy Lavu over bonfire and Hot Chocolate and a visit to Sommaroy, all done safely and comfortably.
