Matrimandir, which is the Sanskrit word for 'Temple of The Mother', is the most important edifice of the Auroville township in Pondicherry. Located just in the middle of Auroville in a large open area known as 'Peace', Matrimandir is fondly known as the 'soul of the city' and holds crucial spiritual significance for those who practice Integral Yoga. This was a great tour of the area. The focus was really more on Auroville and its movement rather than Pondicherry. My guide went into great detail about the movement’s spiritually and we also visited their ashram in Pondicherry. We also did some sightseeing in Pondicherry but it wasn’t the focus as much.

Auroville, learning about the Mother was a moving and spiritual experience. Pondicherry was simply lovely, the beach, the museum and the temples and French buildings. Most of all our guide Sonu was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about your beautiful country. She was amazing throughout the day. Our driver was brilliant. Don’t think I could ever drive here.

Taxi was very uncomfortable, no suspension, very poor seating, driver surfing internet while driving, vehicle in very poor condition, no water provided as promised. Tour guide was excellent however tour had large travel time in very poor vehicle & Driver
