We will meet at Shin Kawasaki Station. Your guide will share how Sumo wrestlers live in real life and the tradition and history of Sumo. Meet your local guide at the Shin-Kawasaki station and head to the real Sumo stable, which was officially used until 2022. First, your guide will explain the unique lifestyle and customs of the sumo world, followed by a room tour to see the dining room, bath, and practice area, where you can get a glimpse of the lives of sumo wrestlers. Afterwards, you will be seated right in front of the sumo ring to watch a morning sumo practice session. Usually, Sumo morning practice begins around 7:00 a.m. and lasts for three to four hours, and a unique training session has continued since the Samurai era. Guests who wish to participate will have the opportunity to experience these movements with us and see firsthand how rigorous the training is. After the match, we will eat Chanko-Nabe together, a dish that makes a sumo wrestler's body big. We make chicken dumplings, the main ingredient of the chanko-nabe, with the wrestlers, and everyone eats together around a table that was actually used in the sumo room.

My husband and I booked this sumo experience as part of a Christmas gift I gave him back in 2024. He has a deep interest in martial arts, especially sumo, and has spent countless hours researching the sport, so this experience was extra meaningful. It was also my way of promising him that we would finally travel to Japan in 2025… and we did! From start to finish, we were incredibly well taken care of by our lovely guides, Mayu and Mari. They were welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. We also learned so much from the sumo wrestlers, Tsubomi and Koa, who were not only skilled but also very open and friendly. *Apologies if any names were misspelled! 🙇♀️ The whole session was wonderfully immersive as we got to try out some moves! We also loved the presentation slides, it was fascinating to learn about the history, rules, traditions, and fun facts about sumo before watching and participating in the demonstrations. And of course, ending the experience with a delicious bowl of chanko nabe was the perfect finishing touch. It was such a nice moment to sit down, relax, chat with everyone, and ask any lingering questions. For anyone who ends up loving the meal as much as we did, they even sell the sauce so you can recreate it at home! This experience became a highlight of our trip and we still talk about it (a lot) to this day! Highly recommended for anyone curious about sumo or looking for a unique, memorable cultural activity 😊

Jim was a great guide and very detailed. The two sumo wrestlers who we had the honor of meeting were genuinely kind people. We had such a great time participating in the training session and the lunch was equally as fun. I hope to visit in the future and introduce new friends to sumo and share this incredible experience with more friends!

Fuji, Kiichi, and Ko(u?) were excellent hosts, giving us a fun and interactive run through of the history and practice of sumo. I appreciate that Fuji took the time to ask questions and get us involved when discussing the history of sumo. The demonstrations were fun to see and provided a cool opportunity to see how things are actually done — it gave a sense of how rigorous the trainings are. Joining practice was fun (but not mandatory); you get a much stronger appreciation of how strong sumo wrestlers are! There’s a lot of lightheartedness and you can tell they do their best to make it fun for you as a participant haha.

This was a wonderful experience, full of fun and play. We trained with real sumos to understand how difficult the sport is. This was well guided by Fuji and the sumos were very kind and informative.

My group had the best time! My husband loves watching sumo, so he had a blast actually going through the motions. Kou and Iwaka were our sumo wrestlers and they were so much fun! I enjoyed their humor. Everyone in our group participated. I don't think it would have been the same if we only sat and watched. Charlie was our guide. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. The chanko nabe was delicious and it was very cool to chat with our wrestlers, asking whatever questions we wanted. They provided a souvenir of our wrestlers and our own handprints, as well as the shirts. There was also merch available. We bought the sumo calendar and our friends chose the chanko nabe sauce and recipe so he can make it at home. This is definitely one of those unique exerperinces that you have to do!

It was amazing! Charlie was great at explaining everything. Kou and Iwata we're great. Our whole group had an awesome time! I'd recommend this to anyone interested in learning sumo instead of just watching.

The sumo experience is enjoyable because we get to learn about sumo, watch firsthand how sumos train, and get to experience their training and even engage in a match against a sumo. Marie is lovely from the point of waiting for us at the station until the end of the experience.
