Hidden deep in the jungle, Ichkabal is one of the most important and mysterious Mayan cities ever discovered. Once a political and spiritual center, it played a key role in the formation of the ancient Mayan civilization. After many years of research and restoration, Ichkabal has recently opened to the public, offering a unique opportunity to explore a sacred site untouched by mass tourism. The journey begins at Ichkabal, where we walk among ancient temples and plazas surrounded by lush jungle. During the hike, it’s common to spot monkeys, foxes, and colorful tropical birds that inhabit this area. This is not only a visit to an archaeological site — it’s a step back in time to experience the magic, mystery, and nature of the Mayan world.

5.00Great experience with Mehran! We visited the Ichkabal site early in the morning and had the privilege of having the whole site to ourselves, a refreshing breakfast, followed by a relaxing swim at the Bacalar Rapids. I highly recommend, Thank you for everything:)

5.00I’ve been in Bacalar for a week and this tour with Mehran is my favorite thing I did! I’ve seen many ruins in the Yucatán and this ranks as my favorite trip. If you’re on the fence about taking this tour, just do it! You have the incredible opportunity to see Ichkabal soon after the site opened to the public. We were the first ones to arrive at the ruins in the morning, which was a very peaceful experience. Mehran was extremely punctual, informative, kind and great at anticipating the needs of the group. I traveled as a female alone and not only felt totally comfortable, but had a wonderful time talking to the other travelers. Take advantage of this opportunity!

4.00Great package tour - the Ichkabal archeological site first thing in the morning, a fruit filled picnic, and four floats down los Rápidos. Great guides and great conversations with all participants. A Bacalar must-do and I’m glad we did!
Two hikes in one go - history and nature

5.00Two completely different sites but both spectacular in their own way. The archaeological site of Ichkabal is still usable and enjoyable, given its recent opening to the public. Surely in a few years it will also become more famous than the nearby Calakmul and Coba. The highest pyramid, still scalable, reaches 42 m in height, and from there the view is really impressive. Our guide knew many anecdotes about the area, the ancient Mayans and their history in general. This allowed us to further appreciate what we were seeing, which was already amazing in itself. The next excursion to Los Rapidos instead kidnapped our hearts and gave us indescribable colors and emotions for the beauty and peculiarity of that part of the lagoon. Between the two stops we enjoyed delicious fresh fruit and delicious coconut juice. Drone guide/driver and photographer (we then received the photo shoot at no additional cost) were professional and humanly sensitive to our times/needs. All this to say that we recommend this agency without delay, and this excursion in particular. Thank you so much again to all the staff! Antonio and Barbara

5.00We took a tour from Bacalar to the Maya site of Ichkabal with a group of friends and Elli and Mehran and had a really good experience. The site is quiet, not crowded, and interesting to walk through After the tour, we were served a tasty breakfast, which was a great way to end the morning. We also visited a nearby viewpoint, which offered a nice stop with a good view of the area. Overall, the tour was well organized and a good option if you want to see something different around Bacalar.

5.00If you love history, nature, and peace, this is your place. You’ll learn about the beautiful Mayan culture and float down Los Rápidos, soaking in the beauty of Mother Nature. And if you have any questions, Mehran is your guy! He’s lovely, knowledgeable, always ready with a solution, and as a bonus, a talented photographer. I highly recommend giving it a try.

5.00We simply must make the trip down to Bacalar, and I cannot recommend the combination of Ichkabal and Los Rápidos highly enough—it was the best experience I had on my last trip. The stunning contrast between the ancient Mayan history and the natural wonder of the lagoon is breathtaking. We started the day exploring the newly opened Mayan site of Ichkabal, which promises to be a future marvel, offering a quiet, immersive look at massive, unrestored pyramids. Afterwards, we'll head straight to Los Rápidos. This is the must-do Bacalar experience: imagine lying in a natural, shallow river, letting the current of the "River of Seven Colors" gently pull you through mangrove tunnels. Crucially, having Mehran Golchin lead this journey elevated it to the next level. His expertise as a tour leader provided all the detailed, context-specific information, turning simple sight-seeing into a profound cultural experience that made everything "click." His guidance makes the logistics effortless and the history much more sensible and fascinating. 5.00Ichkabal is amazing. It’s located deep in jungles near bacalar and you’ll be able to observe amazing wildlife on your way to see the historic buildings. This seems to be just the beginning of Ichkabal as 93% of the site is still not excavated. From the ancient buildings to the wildlife and fungi, there is a lot to feed your curiosity. Los Rapidos is fun and chill, be careful with stromatolites and enjoy the canal. Mehran was great. Everything was well-thought and we had a seamless experience. He went above and beyond to provide everything that we needed. He seemed to enjoy the tour as much as we did. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting bacalar.
