Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, also known as the Ubud Monkey Forest, is one of the most famous attractions in Ubud, Bali. It’s a nature reserve and Hindu temple complex that serves as both a sanctuary for hundreds of long-tailed macaque monkeys and a significant cultural site. The forest spans over 12.5 hectares and is home to around 1,200 to 1,260 monkeys, making it a lively and engaging experience for visitors. The sanctuary also features lush greenery, with a rich variety of tropical plants and towering ancient trees. Within the forest, there are three Hindu temples dating back to the 14th century, dedicated to different deities, such as Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, the main temple, which honors the god Shiva.

The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud is truly a magical place! Walking through lush greenery and ancient temple ruins, surrounded by playful monkeys, feels like stepping into another world. The monkeys are friendly (but be cautious with your belongings! 🐒), and the serene atmosphere adds to the charm. A must-see if you're in Ubud!

We enjoyed your visit to monkey forest. Monkey was not aggressive nor we seen anyone been bitten from the other hand we seen many tourists overreact and been scared of nothing. You can’t feed the monkeys anymore and they receive as much food they want from the care. Employees are everywhere to ensure safety. Will visit again next year. 👍

First time here for a morning walk, the place is neatly arranged for the parking area is also easy to reach, and the atmosphere in this area is still clean and beautiful, suitable for healing just a leisurely walk, the toilet is also clean and does not smell.😊

Beautiful sanctuary in the heart of Ubud. Watching the monkeys do their monkey business was such a fun experience. 😂 We didn't get attacked or scratched, I guess we did it right. Read the rules and respect them for everyone's safety. Oh, yes, definitely come early morning to have bit more space and also the monkeys will have had their breakfast so they would be more chilled.

A must see and experience in Ubud, especially if you like monkeys. They're everywhere thought the forest but there are also intricate carvings, temples and even an art shop to peruse through. Just take a moment to read the rules and you will be fine. They may, or may not, jump on you but that too is ok and fun 😊. They really liked my wife's dress lol 😆 as she wore a cotton, frilly one that must have seemed like fur to them and the little ones climbed up on it! I had to coax them onto me to 'save' her. All in all a wonderful experience!

You’ve gotta see this if you're in Ubud. Monkeys everywhere, plus cool carvings, temples, and even an art shop. Follow the rules and you’ll be fine they might hop on you or ignore you. My wife had monkeys climbing her dress because it felt like fur 😂 I had to lure them onto me to help her out. Such a fun, memorable experience!
