“The abode of happiness, the envy of heaven”—so reads the plaque at the entrance of Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. Built by Hyder Ali and completed by his son, this elegant palace was once part of a far grander complex. Step through its scalloped arches and fluted teak pillars, and you’ll sense a blend of Mughal grace and South Indian Temple artistry. Though the painted Islamic motifs have faded, faint traces still whisper of the palace’s past splendor. From the upper balconies, Tipu Sultan addressed his officers, soldiers, and citizens. Later, under British rule, these same halls became administrative offices for the Kingdom of Mysore. On the ground floor lies a small museum, where treasures await—a specimen of the legendary Mysorean rocket and a miniature of Tipu’s famed Tiger. With your guide, each corridor and carved pillar comes alive with tales of ambition, beauty, and forgotten glory.
Bangalore Fort
Your next stop is Bangalore Fort—once a mighty teardrop-shaped stronghold spread across nearly a square mile. In its heyday, it was a proud bastion of the Kingdom of Mysore, bristling with ramparts, bastions, and soldiers. Today, only a fraction remains, but they still echo the fort’s former might. We step through the Delhi Gate, not just one, but three gateways in succession, each designed to delay invaders. Imagine the scene: towering teak doors, their iron spikes gleaming, ready to stop charging war elephants in their tracks. Inside, a small Ganesha temple stands quietly, a later addition that hints at the fort’s layered history. The gateways themselves carry a different story—stucco decorations with fine Islamic artistry, filled with floral, geometric, and avian motifs. Scattered across the fort walls are striking Hindu relief carvings. And here, in 1791, the roar of cannons shook the air as Mysore’s forces clashed with the East India Company in the fateful Battle of Bangalore.

Praveen has a honed storytelling ability that provides you with a holistic view into the past that changes the way you looked at these sites. The tour is complemented by his depth of knowledge that allows you to connect the dots of the past. A highlight of the tour is a glimpse of the bustling wholesale market area of Bangalore with its extensive flower market that entrenches you with its colour and fragrance.

5.00We had a wonderful tour with Praveen in late December 2025! The history was very interesting (and Praveen made it accessible) and we really enjoyed the places we visited, especially the incredible KR market with fruits/vegetables, amazing flower garlands and beyond! My 10-year-old son was just able maneuver the crowded streets but it may be challenging for younger children or anyone with mobility challenges as there is uneven terrain and a lot of chaos. Definitely do not bring a stroller. Highly recommend as long as you can contend with busy, high-density environments. We had a terrific time and learned so much!

5.00The tour covered a fascinating range of themes, focusing on the rulers who laid the foundation of Bengaluru. Within a compact area, we visited a palace, a fort, a mosque, a Jain temple, and a vibrant local market, all brought to life by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, making the experience both rich and easy to follow. Stopping for a wonderful cup of local coffee along the way was a lovely touch. The mix of history, architecture, and the energy of the marketplace made this walk especially memorable. Highly recommended—and we would gladly do it again.

5.00This was my 4th tour with Hidden Gems Tour and I had another wonderful experience! The tour guide was very knowledgeable not only about the sites, but also of Bangalore in general! In the heart of Bangalore sits the historic sites of Tipu Summer Palace, a beautiful all teak wood palace where you can see original motifs and one of the first rockets made, the Bangalore fort expanded by Tipu, and the KR Market, one of the oldest and largest city markets, where you can find almost anything you need. The market activity, the scents, and the sounds are exhilarating! A great opportunity to talk to the local vendors gain inside into local life, and to try some of the local fruits. I tried the custard apple at the fruit and vegetable market, it is a very unique fruit with a flavor to match. However, the highlight of the market is the flower market, but get there early to really experience the vendors selling their flowers. I highly recommend this tour!

5.00Interesting walking trip covering a palace, fort and bustling market. Need good coverage of legs and shoulders for Hindu temple. Also, enjoyed filter coffee and sugar cane juice. Leave your backpacks and only bring a small bag as many people in the market.

5.00Had a wonderful afternoon with my guide Mr Ahmad. The tour was concise and great to experience the local way of live. Mr Ahmad made sure I was well taken care of in the crowd. He also helped me with my flowers and fruits purchase and brought me to local coffee shop for delicious dosa and coffee at the end of the trip.
