Please Note!, We offer 1 tour per ship, so when booking please make sure you book the same time as your ship's arrival. You have 1/2 hour to get to your guide, waiting for you on the dock. The Fortress Louisbourg is a living ,working town from the 17th century. They have a bakery, eatery, blacksmith shop, stables and gardens. There is also a native display, as the french befriended the native people with trade and knowledge for furs and food. Blackwood Tours provides a unique tour for the Fortress, sometimes we can provide a french speaking guide if requested.

Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site
Fortress of Louisbourg is a designated historical landmark of Canada.In the 1700's it served as a profound place of significance in the great struggle between France and Britian for the empire. Characters are dressed in colonial wear and carry on the daily lives of the people who lived there in the days of the 1700's. French is the main language spoken by the townspeople unless you need interpretation. After the Fortress tour you will be taken to the Louisbourg Lighthouse, the first lighthouse erected in Canada. On your way back, you will drive along the Mira River, cottage country, great for all types of water sports. The river consists of half salt water and half fresh water. You will pass over Marion Bridge, famous for its song, and a gathering place for concerts and family gatherings. Then you will drive through Membertou First Nation reservation, voted the #1 reservation in Canada for years in a row. Known for its social and economic developments as the Mi"kmaq comminity .

5.00Great tour with Francine. She gave us lots of information and plenty of time at each stop.all the places we visited is exactly what we wanted to see. This was our second time in Dydney and the town at the port doesn’t have much to offer. We really wanted to see more.

3.00Ron is a driver not a tour guide. We got on the Louisbourg walking tour operated by the park. Cutomers must understand that Ron is not giving tours of the fort.

5.00My husband and another couple booked this tour for when our cruise stopped in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Jim, was our guide and he did a phenomenal job in informing us all about his home town. He drove us to the Louisbourg Fortress, which is quite a drive there. The weather was perfect! The fortress was truly a gem to visit. We loved it. They have characters depicting the French who inhabited the fortress/colony during the mid-1700's. It was magnificent!. It takes a good 2 1/2-3hrs to see everything and we enjoyed it so much. Jim also took us to a local bakery/sandwich shop to pick up lunch prior to visiting the fortress and we enjoyed a nice picnic lunch on the lawns at the fortress. After our visit to the fortress, Jim showed many highlights including Havenside , where a beautiful site with a lighthouse was. We also many other wonderful sites of Sydney while listening Jim speak about his home town and where he grew up. We could not be more pleased with Jim and the tour, and were surprised to find out this was his "first" tour! "Well done" Jim and thank you again for a fantastic day!

5.00Rob was great. Collected us straight from the port in an 8 seater bus and drove us straight to the fort he even managed to drop us right by the entrance to allow us optimum time at the fort. We arrived in time to be able to book an additional guided tour around the fort which finished in time for us to watch the midday canon fire. In all we had around 3 hours at the fort but Rob was highly flexible on how long we were able to spend there. On the way back to the port we stopped at the lighthouse to get photos and Rob even offered to take a group shot for us. We then continued with the guided tour and were dropped back at the port with time to spare before our ship left.

5.00About a half hour drive from the port with our driver Mike filling us in on the history we were about to travel back to, we came to a remarkably well preserved, maintained, and restored fort. We were given detailed departure information and then had several hours to tour. Reenactors, dressed in period garb were every and most informative. Demonstrations were done and all were most interesting. The drive back was filled with more details about the area. Turns out Mike was a life long resident of the area and his pride of its history was quite apparent! He even took to the second oldest lighthouse in North America.

1.00We are unable to review this tour was cancelled the day before we were to take it. We were disappointed but understood that things happen. We were given option to get full refund or we could accept a different tour that he named so we agreed with that.

5.00We enjoyed our day and Bob was an excellent guide. The Fortress of Louisbourg was interesting. One of our favorite parts was getting out to the lighthouse. There were only a few other people there so it was a great sight to take pictures and enjoy the views of the Harbor.
