Indonesia's most important archaeological sites are the temples Borobudur and Prambanan. Yogyakarta is also where the Javanese language is at its purest, Java’s arts at their brightest and its traditions most visible. This exhibition of culture combined with 2 of Indonesia's renowned landmarks in the form of the volcanoes Bromo and Ijen and their landscape all in one tour. Get ready to experience Java.
After the tour you will be dropped in Ketapang harbour, where you can take the ferry to Bali.
Hotels used:
First night: in the train
Second night in Cemara Lawang village: Cafe Lava Hotel (or similar)
Third night in Bondowoso city: Ijen View Hotel.
All included except travel insurance, personal expenses, horse riding Bromo, optional tours, lunches and dinners.
If the party consists in 4 or more an English speaking guide is added.

Borobudur Temple
Be ready for this impressive cultural day. You will be picked up at 06:00. First is the most famous Borobudur temple. The Borobudur is located 42 km northwest of Yogyakarta. This 8th century Mahayana Buddhist monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, 2672 relief panels, and 504 Buddha statues. Impressive?
Prambanan Temples
Then, you travel southeast to the Prambanan temple. This is a mighty 9th century Hindu complex.
If time is sufficient and your energy still up, you can visit Yogyakarta's city center, Tamansari water palace, and the batik and silver industry in Kotagede.
Yogyakarta Station
If you still have time, you can have lunch before take the train to Malang at 16:41 and arrive in at 22:55.

You will have breakfast in our hostel in Malang. Healthy home made food. A variety of western and local dishes.
Malang City Square
After breakfast you will have some time for sightseeing in Malang. First is the Malang's heritage, the roundabout (with liberty statue, opened in 1952 by Indonesia's first president) on which Malang's 1929 city hall is located. Then Kampong Jodipan (colorful kampong/neighborhood with mural art), bird and flower market, and Ijen boulevard.
Madakaripura Waterfall
It is a 2.5 hours drive from Malang to the enchanting Madakaripura waterfalls. After the car parks, you will go by motorbike taxi to the starting point of your hike. A local guide (obligatory) will walk with you in about 30 min - fairly easy path - to the waterfalls. But be ready to get wet....
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
From the Madakaripura waterfalls it is a 45 min drive to Cemara Lawang village. Explore the Hindu village and see the sunset.
Bromo sunrise tour - Bondowoso city

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
Early departure. At 03:00 your private Jeep is waiting. Head to viewpoint Kingkong. Experience sunrise over the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru NP. Then drive through the Sea of Sand to get near the active volcano Bromo. It is a 45 min walk one way.
After check out of your hotel it is a 5 to 6 hours drive to Bondowoso. Have a break at the winding road over the Arak-Arak hills.
The hotel comes with a swimming pool. Enjoy a relaxed evening as next morning will be another early departure. You can order dinner in the hotel, or go out for some street food. Bondowoso isn't much of a big city.

Another worthwhile early morning. At 04:00 you depart to Paltuding, a 2 hours drive. The hike to Ijen crater lake takes about 1.5 hrs. Slopes can be steep on this 3 km walk. Meet the sulphur miners wheeling down their harvest. The most acidic lake on earth. Blueish-green. Exquisitely exceptional...
Jagir Waterfall
Once back at the parking area, enjoy a break. On route to Ketapang you can visit the sulphur factory in Licin village, Kalibendo coffee area and Jagir waterfall.
Ketapang Ferry
You will arrive in Ketapang around noon, 12:00. In Ketapang you can take the ferry to Gilimanuk in Bali. In Gilimanuk you will find a bus terminal. If you need help with private transport to any location in Bali, please ask. We can arrange your transfer.

5.00An unforgettable tour in East Java with friendly and helpful drivers Mr. Agung in Yogyakarta and Mr. Mull on our Mt Bromo and Kawah Ijen leg of the journey. As two female travelers we felt safe and completely at ease with them. Mr. Agung was knowledgeable and took the time and patience to satisfy our curiosity by answering our questions. Mr. Mull put us at ease as we were nervous about climbing Mt Bromo and Ijen. Very happy with the professionalism of Smartine and would definitely use their services again.

5.00We were picked up in Yogy for the temple tour, then train in the afternoon to Malang, then picked up by our adorable driver Mull for the Bromo and Ijen tour. Everything went great and we are very happy with the organization of Smartine! Thanks also to all the very nice guides we had!

5.00Our trip with Smartine Indonesia Travel was superbly organised from the very first moment and full of personal attention. A special thanks goes to Eki, who accompanied us via email and WhatsApp. She was always available, responded immediately to changes and responded flexibly to all our requests – always friendly, warm and with a real sense of perfect customer service, above all, everything was customizable. Our tour should start in Yogyakarta with a visit to Prambanan Temple. Unfortunately we arrived 8 hours late as our connecting flight was cancelled in Singapore. This was no problem for Eki – she reorganized everything within a very short time, postponed the tour to the next day and made sure that we were even picked up late in the evening by the driver Agung. Agung was fantastic: polite, pleasant, speaks very good English and was able to give us a lot of exciting information during the drive. He was by far the best driver of our entire journey – we felt safe and welcome at all times. The further itinerary was also perfectly coordinated. Train tickets to Malang, tickets, hotels, breakfast boxes – nothing was missing. Widoddo then took over as driver for the second part of our trip – and he was a real asset too. He is calm, very professional, helpful and reliable. His car was comfortable with plenty of space and leather seats, daily there was fresh water. Widodo was not only a fast and good driver, but also a wonderful companion. When we had to skip Mount Ijen due to a cold, he brought us flexibly and without any circumstances directly to the accommodation in Licin which required 6/7 hours. On the way, he even spontaneously organized a great lunch at a charming local restaurant. We are deeply grateful for this special experience. Thanks to Eki, Agung and Widodo, we felt safe, understood and in good hands at all times. Smartine Indonesia Travel is there with all its heart – absolutely recommended for anyone who wants to experience Java individually and authentically!

5.00The tour was very well organised with clear communication with Lita from Smartine and the drivers throughout the entire trip. Both our drivers (Agung in Yogyakarta and Mull for the rest of our trip) were very kind and spoke good English. They were open to share any knowledge/experience they have to gain a better understanding of the culture and way of life in Java. During the hike at Kawah Ijen, we had Lily as our guide who knows a lot about the mining environment and conditions, which made it very insightful. In conclusion, we loved the tour every step of the way!

5.00We had an amazing time during our tour! The agency was super helpful, they added sunrise at Borobudur temple and drop off at the end of the tour in Ketapang harbor (ferry to Bali included) on our request. We spent one day with Agung in Yogyakarta while visiting the temples and the rest of the time in Malang and on mount Bromo with Didik. They're both super nice, friendly and qualified. They also speak a really good English so we had great conversations about local history and culture during our trip. Unfortunately Ijen was closed due to volcanic activities but the agency gave us immediately different new options to choose. We decided to visit Baluran National Park and we didn't regret it! We totally recommend this tour and agency!

5.00A tour to recommend without reservation: the sunrise over Borobudur, the unreal landscapes of Bromo and Ijen volcanoes, ... Leader organization and a special mention for our Guide Wildan with whom we shared beautiful memories during the ascent of Bromo and for our driver Adhit in Yogya, thanks to which we could miraculously catch our train!! finally, the descent into the crater of Ijen, in the middle of the night, to observe the blue flames will remain unforgettable

5.00Amazing experience to get to explore the most beautiful places of Java. Truly something you don't want to miss. Great to have your own driver/tour guide during the entire trip. We had Dodo as our driver, who was super kind and made us feel very safe during the trip. Would highly recommend!
