A private, personalised, walking tour to the Budapest Jewish Quarter revealing the heritage area which was actually a ghetto during WWII and is one of the most popular places of the city with the still perceptible, beautiful past. In spite of the the terrible history of the 20th century Hungarian Jewish communities, Jewish culture has a revival in Budapest with the largest Central and Eastern European Jewish community living here. Budapest Jewish Walk brings you exactly to the heart of this district and will tell you its past and present.

Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby

During the tour you are going to see a huge variety of sights in a relatively small part of Pest. The Jewish Quarter of the seventh district is quite compact, that's why walking is the best way of exploring it. Whichever direction we choose to start our walk in the quarter, we are going to see a lot from the second largest non-Orthodox synagogue in the world to the smallest prayer houses, attractive residential buildings and memorial places of the area: astonishing, all with their own stories. Some of the gems of our itinerary you might already be familiar with but by taking part in the tour you will have the chance to build a new perspective towards them: the synagogues of the so-called synagogue triangle of Budapest such as the Kazinczy, the Rumbach and the Dohány Street Synagogue, the Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Garden with the touching Emmanuel tree, the Budapest Jewish Museum and the exhibitions of the Jewish Archives, The Vasvári Street Synagogue, the Carl Lutz Memorial, the stumbling stones of the quarter’s streets, the last remaining part of the WWII ghetto wall or the iconic Shoes Monument on the riverbank of the Danube. I will also bring you to places mostly visited and used by the locals. You can peep into their everyday lives: courtyards just like the Gozsdu Courtyard, little shops, eateries, confectioneries, the mikveh in Kazinczy Street, art galleries, festival scenes, old and newly opened cafés, the unique ruin bars including the iconic Szimpla will all make you get closer to an insider's look. Just let yourself emerge in the atmosphere! Our itinerary can be highly flexible. If you have deeper interest in something and want to spent more time in a place or you would skip another, no problem. The aim is to give you a good overall picture with lots of stories rather than facts: Always trying to organise the tour as informative, integrating and fun as it is possible. We spent 2 days touring Buda and Pest with Timea! She is an amazing tour guide who is very knowledgeable ,answered all our questions and helped us understanding the history of Hungary, who were the Hungarian Nazis and their role in the death of Jews as well as the German Nazis. She was born and raised in Budapest and shared her family history of survival both past and present. Not only did she know the Jewish sites and history, she also knew about all the building we passed both in Buda and Pest. This tour is a definite must!!

If you are interested in learning about Jewish life in Budapest, both past and present, this tour is absolutely worth it. Timea, who was born and raised in the city and works in Jewish education, was an excellent guide and made the experience feel really personal over the four hours we spent together. She pointed out small architectural details we had walked past multiple times without noticing and used them to tell a much bigger story about Jewish life in Budapest. We did not realize how much history we were walking by just within the few blocks of our hotel. She really knew so much about every corner of the area. What stood out most was how she connected history to the present. She shared what Jewish life looks like in the city today, including sharing details about the synagogues only someone who attended could share, and you could really feel her pride in the community. This definitely made the whole experience feel more meaningful. Even with the length of the tour, it never felt overwhelming. The pacing was great and everything was easy to follow. We saw all the major sites, plus a few we would not have found on our own. Thank you, Timea! It was a really special experience. We hope to return! 10/10 recommend.

This was an incredible tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the entire area. She took us for about 3 hours all around the Jewish border as well as the parliament in the history of the city. We also stopped at some amazing pastry shops as well as other great eating areas. He was very knowledgeable and gave us good insight to the city as well as his history and culture. Highly recommend using this tour guide

Timea shared her city with me, my husband and dear friends over a two day period. We came away with an amazing understanding of its history and where it stands today. She shared what makes Buda and Pest such unique and special places - their people, architecture, food, history, hopes and struggles. It truly was an incredible experience through a natives eyes. Such a magical place!

Timea was absolutely fantastic! We took 2 tours with her - a full day Budapest tour and the Jewish Quarter tour. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and love of her heritage and city cannot be matched. Not only that but she is a delightful person to spend time with. My wife and I fell in love with Budapest and Timea is one of the main reasons. Thank you Timea for making our days in Budapest so interesting.

Timea brought the history and vibrancy of Budapest's Jewish Quarter to life for our family! She is warm and knowledgeable and created some core memories for us of this remarkable place. Timea brought us to places we wouldn't have found (or couldn't get into) on our own and the time with her was well worth her fee.
