  As my wife and I prefer exploring on our own, we hired a canoe for half a day. On arriving at the starting point and having a sensible amount of safety information, we where off. We had a great time enjoying the canal everyone was very friendly.

  Host/guide must of not slept well the night before or something as he was short, grumpy and lacked energy. We started 20 mins later than advertised but still ended at the time it was advertised, with no apology or offer to add the time on. Why am I paying for 2.5 hours but not getting it? Also, to call him a guide is too generous as he started the trip by saying he wasn’t going to guide us or talk about anything and if we wanted to know something we could ask. Of course, no one did, as his energy made us feel like he didn’t want to be asked. Then, during the canoe journey he kept shouting at people in the group like we were naughty school children for going too far ahead. Very condescending. Even though he could see us and had plenty of opportunity to remind us to stay close in a polite and casual way long before we “went too far ahead” and were berated. Also, he should make it clear at the start to stay near him if that’s what he expects. Saw some people on the same experience but with other companies & guides and theirs looked and sounded a lot more professional and friendly. Next time I’ll just hire my own canoe and then be able to fully enjoy it, as the experience itself is amazing, so peaceful and the views are gorgeous. Just a shame we caught him on an off day I guess.

  Absolutely great family experience. Very clear booking confirmation from where to park, to what to bring with you. A couple of hours of great fun. We had the best instructor in Emily who made us feel very welcome and was good company throughout. 100% would recommend.

  Canoeing across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in North Wales was an unforgettable experience and easily one of the highlights of our trip. What really made the day exceptional, though, was our guide, Ben. From the start, he struck the perfect balance between being professional, approachable, and genuinely enthusiastic. His knowledge of the aqueduct’s history, the surrounding area, and canoeing techniques added so much depth to the experience. Ben was also fantastic at making everyone feel comfortable and confident, regardless of experience level. Whether you were a complete beginner or had paddled before, he adapted his guidance so that everyone could enjoy themselves at their own pace. His calm and encouraging manner really helped ease any nerves — especially when heading out onto such a unique and slightly daunting structure! Overall, it was a brilliant day out — a perfect mix of adventure, scenery, and learning. If you’re considering something a bit different in North Wales, I couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough, especially with Ben as your guide.

  An absolutely amazing morning canoeing up the canal A fantastic adventure and our guide Ben was fab! Although his jokes did leave us laughing more at him than with him! Absolutely recommend doing the trip! I took my dog too and she loved watching the bath toys swim past, even if she did give Ben a little bath at one point too! Excellent morning adventure- highly recommended...bring your own dad jokes if you can!!

  We had an absolutely fantastic afternoon canoeing across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct with TNR Outdoors. From start to finish the experience was well organised, relaxed and genuinely unforgettable. Our guide Ben was brilliant. He struck the perfect balance between keeping the group safe and making the whole trip fun and engaging. His knowledge of the aqueduct, the surrounding area and the canal system really added to the experience, and he made sure everyone felt comfortable and confident on the water. Canoeing across the aqueduct itself was a real highlight. Floating along such an iconic structure with the stunning views across the Dee Valley is something we will never forget. It felt surreal being up there on the canal with nothing but the landscape stretching out beneath you. The equipment was great, the briefing was clear and the pace of the trip meant we could properly enjoy the scenery rather than feeling rushed. If you're visiting the area and looking for something a bit different to do, we cannot recommend this experience enough. It's a unique way to see the aqueduct and definitely one of the highlights of our time in North Wales. Thanks again to Ben and the team for such a memorable afternoon.

  

  

• Canal Canoeing

  A great experience, canoeing for about 90 minutes and enjoying the views and the wildlife with our very friendly and helpful guide Hugh, who really looked after all the group. Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, particularly as it was relatively quiet on the canal this early in the year.
