What a remarkable day of adventure exploring the wonders of the island! If you want to be awed by the beauty of nature far away from the cookie-cutter tourist spots, this is the way to go. We took it all in - mountains, valleys, lakes, streams, and the beautiful colors of fall - while learning about the history of Cape Breton. Definitely the highlight of our New England/Canada cruise and we were disappointed to see the day come to an end. Pictures do not do justice to the beauty you can only truly appreciate in person. What a memory, thank you Mac!

My friends and I had the pleasure of taking a six-hour tour with Cape Breton Back Country Adventures, and it was simply wonderful. Our guide (and co-owner), Mac, was a wonderful host - personable, engaging, and full of fascinating stories about the history and people of this beautiful corner of Nova Scotia. His family has lived here for generations, and you can feel that deep connection come through in the way he brings the landscape to life. The Jeep we toured in was extremely comfortable, and we made plenty of stops to take in the views, snap photos, and explore. Highlights included a relaxing lunch break at The Dancing Goat and a visit to a fish hatchery absolutely teeming with salmon and trout - an unexpected and memorable stop. From start to finish, the scenery was breathtaking and Mac’s storytelling made it all the more special. If you want to experience Cape Breton beyond the usual routes and get a true sense of its history and beauty, this tour is perfect.

Fantastic time with mac.the family history was amazing to listen to. We had left our car fob at hotel in Cheticamp so no way to start or lock rental car. He went above and beyond to get us back to get fob during our amazing tour which lasted over 4 hours. He was a fantastic tour guide. Our best experience during our 2 week trip to east coast

We went to Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours festival. We stayed in Sydney at the Membertou Hampton. I’d recommend it because of cleanliness, comfortable beds, exercise facilities, pool, complimentary breakfast buffet (great), popcorn in the evenings and occasionally soup, too. It’s connected to a top notch restaurant. I’d always recommend a day of traveling the Cabot Trail. The views are breathtaking. Amazing fall colors and ocean views.Lots of little shops and restaurants along the way. The Gaelic College is worth visiting. If you’re interested in history, Louisburg is worth your time. Don’t miss the Alexander Graham Bell museum in Baddeck. If you visit during the festival, it is busier, but there are concerts all over the island with Celtic music, bagpipes, and step dancing. There are many cultural activities scheduled at that time. I learned how to needle felt! If planning to visit during the festival, get on the email list to take full advantage of the selection of venues and activities. Some sell out quickly, so it’s important to know when they open up for purchasing. Also be aware that the festival occurs over the Canadian Thanksgiving.

A fantastic experience all around. Mac (our guide) knows the island intimately as he grew up there, and his family goes back many generations on the island. His insights, deep knowledge of the island, and warm, friendly manner were a totally winning combination. The off road element was so much fun, and his personal experiences as a guide made the outing that much more fun. Absolutely recommend. You’ll have a wonderful time.

Mac, the owner and guide, for our adventure was a great host. He made our journey very special because he was able to weave four generations of his family's history into the history of Cape Breton's wilderness. His warm and engaging personality had us talking and sharing about everything we saw. He took us to a wonderful Margaree River overlook to eat our lunch and skip rocks. Anyone looking for a wonderful way to explore the wilderness of Cape Breton, this is the place to go Tom

Mac took us into the history of this beautiful valley. We really had a great time. It is very unusual to know the history of your family back 4 generations! We are US visitors and have enjoyed our stay in beautiful Nova Scotia, this was on the top of our memorable list in CA. 😄👍 Thank you so much Mac!
