  I joined an astro/night sky photography tour this past April and had a fantastic experience. Hunter is an extremely experienced photographer and a patient, approachable teacher who’s easy to learn from. I picked up a lot about astrophotography, and the locations he chose within the park were excellent. He also made sure I had plenty of personal input throughout the tour, which I really appreciated. I would absolutely return for another tour and am already planning my next trip!

  In April I did the 1/2-day, late afternoon, Cathedral Valley Tour with Hunter. It can be a treacherous drive requiring a high-clearance, 4-wheel-drive vehicle, so I was happy to leave the arrangements to him. My objectives were photography-driven --- to get to the best viewpoints in the best light, and that's what he provided. During the trip we also had interesting discussions about landscape photography. For those who want coaching and instruction, Hunter can certainly do that, but that wasn't the focus of my trip. He also gave me a good tip about another less well-known point in Capitol Reef that was an outstanding photo site. I would heartily recommend this tour. I would be less inclined to do the full day/full loop tour -- it would involve a tedious amount of driving, and much of it would take place when the light was not optimal.

  Hunter is very knowledgeable about photography and the Capital Reef area. He took us to cool places for our photos. Hunter instructed me on how to set up my camera with the appropriate settings. He was an excellent instructor!! My photos came out great! Highly recommend.

  I had the pleasure of joining Hunter for a sunrise tour of Bryce Canyon and a sunset session at the Bentonite Hills, and it was an unforgettable experience. Hunter’s knowledge of the locations, timing, and lighting was outstanding—he knew exactly where to be to capture the most dramatic compositions. His guidance was clear, encouraging, and tailored to my goals, which made the experience both educational and inspiring. The tour was well-paced, relaxed, and filled with opportunities to create truly stunning images. I left not only with incredible photographs but also with a deeper appreciation for the landscapes. I highly recommend Hunter and Capitol Reef Photography Tours to any photographer who wants to elevate their work while exploring some of the most breathtaking scenery in Utah.

  We did a variety of tours with Hunter and enjoyed them all. Hunter is very personable and knowledgeable and goes out of his way to ensure clients have an enjoyable and productive experience.

  I had an amazing time with Hunter and I learned quite a bit. Helped me with settings and framing. Also I brought my polarizing filter to help with some river photographs. We had a beautiful sunset to shoot. I would highly recommend Capitol Reef Photography.

  We enjoyed learning new methods and techniques from Hunter to capture the distinctive beauty of a Slot Canyon. He uses a friendly and participative teaching style to help you understand the settings on your camera and the elements that help you create great photos. We highly recommend taking a photography tour with Hunter and look forward to a return visit.

  Hunter is an excellent guide and teacher. He knows the area and gives great tips on composition, lighting and camera adjustments. He even was able to correct my Live View function on my Canon full frame that the manufacturer said I would have to send my camera in for repair on! Great experience!

  Our photography tour with Hunter was unique, enlightening, well managed, and truly enjoyable. Photography workshops can run from the instructor just standing off to the side doing nothing to completely taking over your camera, but Hunter was a perfect mix of astute observation of my process, helpful and constructive suggestions and solid foundation and vision - and he knew much more about my camera than I did. The tour was well managed, taking us to unique and stunning locations we never would have found alone. Highly recommend and would repeat when in the area again in a heartbeat.

  I reached out to Hunter to book a tour for myself and 2 other family members all photographers at different levels. He was extremely accommodating, worked through some scheduling conflicts, in order to work with us while we were in the area. He was communicative through the whole process, on time and his teaching style was exceptional. He knows the area he guides in extremely well and was able to take us to some very unique locations. He made sure that each member of our group received individual attention. He is a great teacher and explained theory and practical application including exposure, composition and was able to personally clear up a few things that I had not been able to wrap my head around. He showed me some things with my camera that I was unaware that it was capable of doing all while making the trip fun and enjoyable. Hunter is just a really nice person. I hope sometime in the future we are able to get back down to his area and go on another adventure. You won’t regret booking a trip with Capital Reef PhotographyTours.
