Sit in the front row to watch a unique spectacle of nature. You will visit the Mata de Plátano Nature Reserve which houses in one of its caves an estimated population of 300 thousand bats and you will have the privilege of observing the impressive exit of these from the cave, to go in search of food in the sunset.

You will be accompanied by Certified Interpreter Guides and biologists, who will explain the different species of bats that inhabit the cave and the importance of these in nature. With the departure of the bats, you can also observe the interaction of the endangered Puerto Rican Boa, Chilabothrus inornatus, feeding on them. A unique experience of contact with nature, which has been filmed for TV documentaries.

With your participation in this tour in the Mata de Plátano Nature Reserve, you will help its maintenance and conservation.

You will explore the Mata de Plátano Nature Reserve in Arecibo, an enclave of great relevance to various fields of science and conservation. This magical place was the scene of documentary filming presented on Discovery Channel, where you will be part of an exclusive event that only here you can witness. We will walk 30 minutes and delve into the history and wealth of the Mata de Plátano Nature Reserve, visiting the enigmatic Cueva Culebrones. This cave is a key area for bat conservation, due to its role as a refuge for an estimated population of more than 300,000. You will be able to observe closely the behavior of the endangered Puerto Rican Boa, Chilabothrus inornatus, in its predation of bats that emerge in large groups of Culebrones Cave. In addition, you will discover the importance of the Karso ecosystem and understand why its protection is vital.

There are never going to be enough words to express how unbelievably and unreal and phenomenal this tour is. Albert is incredibly knowledgeable. His love and passion and knowledge about every animal, reptile, bug and plant in Puerto Rico is unmatched. He is gentle, kind, and brilliant. He was a phenomenal tour guide! I still can't believe all the sites and creatures that we got to see up close in their natural habits. It feels like we had to have imagined it because it was unreal!!!! Watching more than a dozen Boa constrictors snacking on bats... Is something you could never okay seeing in the wilds of the rainforest. Getting to see walking stick bugs (2 different types!), cave spiders, termites, bio illumiscent scorpion, numerous bat species, hearing the Puerto Rican owls, seeing Cookie frogs and so much more! I had injured my foot earlier on our vacation but still really wanted to go on this excursion. He helped me to slow and at the pace that I could handle, he was encouraging and supportive and kept checking in on me, making sure I was okay etc. This is only a tour for people who are interested in wildlife and won't be freaked out by seeing these incredible wildlife up close and personal. (To be clear, we were near the boas and bats, but not in any danger) We are on a tight budget, but we were so intrigued by this tour that we made this our 1 splurge and did cheap or free excursions the rest of our vacation. And boy are we glad!!!! It was well worth every single dollar that we spent. This was a once in a lifetime experience. And we couldn't be more grateful to have gotten to experience this phenomenal tour!!! Thank you Albert!!!!!!
