One of Chengdu’s most popular attractions, this panda park 18km north of the city centre is the easiest way to glimpse Sichuan’s most famous residents. Don't, however, make the mistake of thinking you'll be seeing wild pandas. They are kept in large enclosures and have a dedicated team of scientists and keepers tending to their every need. As well as living, breathing pandas, there are some fascinating panda information centres and museums explaining panda conservation and husbandry.
Home to nearly 120 giant and 76 red pandas, the base focuses on getting these notoriously love-shy creatures to breed and has been remarkably successful at it. March to May is the ‘falling in love period’ (wink wink). If you visit during summer or autumn, you may see tiny newborns in the nursery incubators.

Chengdu Panda Base is a public non-profit breeding and research institute for giant pandas, red pandas, and other rare animals, located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.It started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83.

4.00An incredible experience to see pandas up close, such a rare and special sight! However, it was extremely crowded and hard to see much at times, so that did affect the experience. Still absolutely worth visiting.

5.00My tour guide was Claire, it was easy and nice to talk with her, she told me a lot about plans in the centre and we saw a lot of pandas: they were mostly sitting and eating bamboo, but there were also very active and funny young pandas. Pandas are very cute!

5.00The Giant Pandas and the Red Pandas have an insane attraction. Even if the Giant Pandas are in many smaller enclosures and the Red Pandas in large enclosures, you have a wonderful opportunity to admire these endangered animals. We took a hell of a lot of pictures. Definitely worth it, even if you are not alone - as with all tourist attractions in China. It is advisable to come very early when the station opens. A few hours is enough so you can spend the afternoon in Chengdu

2.00No communication from the attendants. Unable to understand the tour as it was not offered in English. Chinese only. Wasn’t made aware of extra charges for bus inside the place.

5.00Excellent value for a half day tour. The centre was packed with both Red and Giant Pandas. My guide Wu was excellent and was also very interesting to have conversations with.

5.00Libby was a great guide. Very professional, knowledgable and friendly. We saw many Pandas up close and she moved us through the crowds very well. The car service to and from the facility was excellent. Can recommend.
