Wasn’t good experience, we left after few stops because it was stopping so frequently that we did not manage to see anything and decided to walk by foot . No guide was available, no information was provided at all

I do Hop on Hop offs wherever I go. Rome was a very big disappointment. There were back to back hop ons, the stops were blocks away from the sights we wanted to see. The audiophone background music was annoying. I would not recommend this. We had to take taxis to the stops.

We had a very rainy day during our trip to Rome but we didn’t want to stay indoors all day, so this was a good option. However, it can get a bit crowded in the lower level because the upper level isn’t fully covered, which means it’s very cold, wet, and windy. The worst aspect was that there were far too many wait periods, where the bus idled at stops for 20+ minutes (not only at the Roma Termini stop, and not indicated on the map/schedule). This was a big waste of time, the bus operation schedule was very unclear, and the bus tracker was useless. We were only able to do 2 loops (one regular loop, plus one Jubilee line loop) with the 1 Day ticket, so if you think of this purely as a transportation option, it is expensive and inefficient. But since it was the rainy low season the buses weren’t crowded, so we were able to rest and dry off while being transported, which made for a good experience overall.

Avoid. We were advised that bus frequency was every 20 minutes, in fact it was closer to 45 minutes or longer. In several instances the bus took a different route through the city so by-passed pre-determined stops. There also seemed to be far fewer busses than other bus companies, and our bus was very very full. Were also advised the bus ran until 8pm, but at 7pm when we arrived at Termini station we were told to disembark, it was the end of the line - so we then had to take a taxi at additional cost. Wifi on the bus didn't work, and QR code at bus stops designed to track when the next bus would arrive also didn't work.

The stops are too far from each other, the stop at the Colosseum was closed. Some of the audio machines were not working. Buses were too full we had to wait for the next one.

We had a great experience with the hop-on hop-off bus in Rome. The service was excellent every single day. Staff were always helpful, friendly, and smiling, which made the whole experience even better. We booked the 72-hour tickets for our family of five, and it was absolutely worth it. The buses were convenient, the routes were well planned, and it made getting around Rome’s main attractions very easy and stress-free. Overall, a wonderful experience that we would happily recommend!

This was the winter route so the stops may have been a little farther apart. But they partnered with another system that had 4 extra stops. This closed the gap on some areas but this bus only ran on the hour so there was a longer wait time between pickups. Still it was a good value. We had 72 hours so we were able tour Rome sites very well.

We came to Bologna for a trade fair. What we didn’t expect was a crash course in transportation chaos, miscommunication, and street-level survival. Over three days, our team faced everything from taxi droughts to public transport fines and even theft. This is our story—not to complain, but to caution. Day 1: We landed with six suitcases and zero taxis. Uber doesn’t work here. No metro, no train. People were grabbing taxis mid-drop-off like it was a sport. After 90 minutes of waiting, we finally snagged one from the departure floor. Day 2: Public buses were our only option. We asked the driver how to pay—he waved us in. We paid €2.50 at the machine when exiting. After the fair, it rained. We squeezed into another packed bus. One teammate sat near the front and couldn’t reach the fare machine. He planned to pay when exiting, like we did earlier. Then came the inspectors. They fined him €110 for not paying immediately. We explained, showed proof, pleaded. No mercy. Pay now or €150 tomorrow. 🎒 Day 3: Wallet Stolen, Deadline Looming We rushed to the bus office to pay the fine by bus. As our teammate boarded, he reached for his wallet to pay… and realized it was gone. Stolen. Right from his zipped pocket. He remembered being squeezed by a few guys while boarding. The wallet had a few hundred euros, all his credit cards, ID, and a birthday gift wallet. We paid the fine and fare for him, then rushed to the police station. It was packed. At least 10 people were there reporting thefts. Young, old, couples, tourists —everyone seemed to have lost something. Clearly, this wasn’t an isolated incident. ________________________________________ Takeaway: Bologna has its beauty, but for us, it was a logistical and emotional nightmare. If you’re visiting: • Don’t rely on Uber or taxis. • Pay bus fare immediately upon boarding. • Keep valuables secure. • Be alert in crowded areas.
