If you’re looking for a coffee tour that will deepen your knowledge and expose you to interact with local communities off-the-beaten-path, this is for you. The tours take place in the community of San Miguel Escobar in the outskirts of Antigua (20 or 30 minutes) where the coffee growers will lead you through their fields, explain the work behind cultivating coffee, walk you through each processing step from bean to brew, and finish the tour by joining you for a coffee in their home. Along the way, you’ll learn more than just the process behind coffee--you’ll have authentic and transparent conversations with small-scale producers to hear firsthand about their obstacles, triumphs, and goals as coffee growers and experience their persisting enthusiasm and dedication to the coffee industry.

You will walk through coffee fields located at the base of the mighty and dormant Agua volcano, which in ancient times it was called Hunapu by the Mayan tribes that lived in the region. Additionally, in the distance, you can see the Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes.

My partner and I just did the day trip which included a cooking class and coffee tour. We were with the family of Juan Carlos and Christina. Everything was very organized and we felt well taken care of. They invited us into their home. We started with a cooking class of pepián and a chocolate plantain dessert. We got to enjoy the lunch with the husband, wife and translator. Then we walked out to the coffee farm and learned about the plants. And later walked back to the house to prep the coffee for roasting and grinding. Very much enjoyed the experience with our hosts. Also thanks to Gabi, the translator. We had a very lovely time and it was a highlight of our time in Antigua.

This is totally worth the time and money. You hear directly from a family coffee grower and get a sense of what it is like to live in Guatemala and be a coffee grower. Our grower was Alejandro, who was an absolute delight to learn from. He exuded the pride and passion for his work. After he showed his some of his land and plants and talked us through the growing process, he brought us into his home where he and his wife freshly roasted beans and served us a traditional cup of coffee with a champurrada. I’m so grateful to have had this experience and learn from Alejandro, it makes me appreciate each cup of coffee a lot more. I have a better understanding of what it takes to make each cup and how small coffee growers are directly impacted.

This was a great experience. We learned so much about coffee production from growing the beans to processing to roasting. Our guides were lovely, informative and answered all of our questions. Highly recommend.

We have done an all-day cooking class and a coffee tour in April. We have visited Hilda and Elisandro in their nice house with Nataly as our translator. Everyone was amazing and very friendly, and we extremely enjoyed our day. First, we have done an artisanal cooking class with Hilda where we cooked Pepián and a dessert (Mole de plátano), and ate all together while having nice chats. Then, Elisandro gave us information about the coffee, the process and the production details before we did a tour of the coffee fields learning more about the trees and how the whole process works in practice. Then, we came back to their home, roasted and grinded fresh coffee and drank it all together. The whole experience was amazing from pick up to cooking and the coffee. Hilda and Elisandro were extremely friendly and we felt really cozy and comfortable with them. Nataly did a great job translating and giving us more information about the collective. Also, we really appreciated to learn more about the details of how the cost of coffee and these tours are distributed between producers etc. so it was great to see that transparently! We really suggest this tour and it is a great way to support local collectives and families.

Jose and his family were so warm and welcoming. They were very knowledgable and you could tell they enjoyed what they did. It was nice to see that the coop and De La Gente was able to make it so that the farmers got fair compensation for the work that they did.

Very in depth and intimate experience with a local coffee farmer and his family into the word of coffee harvesting. The translator, Angela, was an excellent translator.

We learned so much about the coffee making process, and by the end, we felt like Andres was our long lost grandpa! We love the business model of this group and how it supports local farms. Plus, it was one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had!

Loved this tour and Andres showing us how he grows and prepares the beans to become coffee. You will leave with so much more respect for every cup of coffee you drink. It was great to meet Andres’ family and have them prepare us coffee from their farm. Really a great experience.
