5.00Amazing tour and morning with Luigi... he prompty swept us past the long lines and gave us a digestible overview of Roman history while waiting for our turn to enter the Underground. It was a very hot day, so the underground was a welcome retreat and above ground Luigi made sure to give us stops for water and find shady places to stand and learn about this incredible spot. Luigi's PhD-level knowledge of history and archeology were much appreciated by our family 12-53 years old, and the small group meant we were nimble, saw lots of little details and had time to ask questions. Great day overall!

4.00This was a small group tour ( maximum 6 participants) which was lovely, and we chose to do this as it included the underground part of The Colosseum. The guide , Allessandro, was knowledgeable, but seemed to be in a rush all the time to avoid the larger tour groups. He did give us plenty of photo stop opportunities, but again we always felt rushed. We did get to see everything we wanted to in The Colosseum, but we were only shown a few things in a very small part of the Forum before being taken to the exit ( and the 3 hour tour only really lasted just under 2.5 hours!). In hindsight it would have been better to just stay in the Forum rather than exit with the guide, and continue looking round by ourselves. As it was, we decided to return the following day ( paying another entrance fee) to look round the Forum and Palatine Hill at our leisure. I realise that you can't see everything in 3 hours, but I do feel that we were a bit short-changed in terms of time. It was a great tour to be able to see the underground part of the Colosseum so would recommend it just for that, as not many other tours seemed to offer this, but 3 hours is not long enough to cover the Forum and Palatine Hill.
