Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden
We drive through villages of Moycullen, Oughterard, Maam Cross and Recess. The road takes us through the scenic Inagh Valley surrounded by the majestic Twelve Ben Mountains on your left and the Maumturk Mountains on your right. Our next destination is Killary Fjord, Ireland’s one and only fjord. We continue our journey to the other side of the fjord, towards Doolough lake and the magnificent Mweelrea Mountain. From Doolough Valley we turn back for Kylemore Abbey and the Victorian Walled Garden, one of the most iconic locations in Connemara. We then visit Kylemore Castle Estate and see all it has to offer. Lunch at Mitchell's Cafe. After a hearty lunch you will sit back and enjoy the drive towards Clifden and The Sky Road. We take the spectacular peninsula loop drive to reach the highest point. There you will see unbeatable views of Connemara, the Atlantic Ocean and the islands. The rugged coastline of county Mayo will be to the North and county Clare to the South. There is still much more to see as we descend from the Sky Road and arrive in Clifden, the westernmost town in Ireland. From Clifden, we follow The Wild Atlantic Way to Dogs Bay with its bright white sandy beach. In summer, you will feel free to take a refreshing dip in its crystal blue waters and enjoy being on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. After our beach-break we drive through picturesque Roundstone Village and arrive at the Ballynahinch Castle, set in a private 700-acre estate of woodland, rivers and walks. Among many previous owners it was once purchased by an Indian Maharaja Ranji, also called The Prince of Cricketers, in 1924. Today the castle is state-owned and operates as a 4-star hotel. At Ballynahinch we can take a short walk along the river, stroll through the ground floor of the castle and enjoy a pint on the terrace overlooking the river. On the way back to Galway we can stop for dinner in one of the pubs along the way, as you wish.

5.00Our time with Ulla was more than just a tour — it felt like a day spent with a friend who genuinely loves the land she’s showing you. From the moment we met her in Galway, we knew we were in good hands. She greeted us with a warm smile, a calm energy, and a genuine curiosity about who we were — not just where we were going. The route through Connemara was stunning: past the peaceful village Oughterard, then into the dramatic Inagh Valley. Ulla shared stories of the land — not as a script, but like someone passing down knowledge from her own experience. She pointed out little things we would’ve missed — like the beautiful views of Loch Na Fooey. Stopping at Killary Fjord was a peaceful moment. We had a short break in Leenaun for a cappuccino at a local cafe, and Ulla didn’t rush us — she made the whole day feel unhurried and comfortable. The most powerful moment came in the Doolough Valley, as Ulla told the story of the Doolough Tragedy from the famine years. Her voice softened, and she gave the space the weight it deserved. There was no need to say much afterward — the silence of the valley spoke for itself. Kylemore Abbey was the perfect contrast: full of beauty, peace, and history. We had plenty of time to walk the grounds and eat lunch. The story of the Henry family added unexpected depth — a place built in love, marked by loss, and left behind as a lasting legacy. From there, Ulla drove us through the changing landscape of County Mayo and back toward Galway, eventually stopping at the grounds of Ballynahinch Castle. More than anything, it was Ulla’s kindness that stood out. She never made the day feel rushed or overly “tour guide-y.” She gave us history, nature, and space to take it all in. It’s rare to meet someone who’s so naturally good at what they do. Thank you, Ulla, for a memorable day.

5.00It's been a magical day. Ulla welcomed us in her ultra comfortable car and showed us hidden landscapes and places. We didn't want to see people, just landscapes. And we saw extraordinary places thanks to her. Ulla is a discreet and cultured woman, passionate about the excursions she organizes, it shows. We highly recommend this tour with her. It's worth it.

5.00This tour is an absolute must! Ulla is absolutely spectacular. She is the kindest, most caring, most informative tour guide you’ll ever find! We spent nine hours with her! We saw so much! The views are spectacular. The sites unforgettable. Ulla takes you to the “off the beat and path” locations and you feel like a local! She really caters to what you are looking for. I really wanted to take a plunge into the Atlantic and we stopped at a beautiful beach and I took the plunge. It was wonderful. The Kylemore Abbey is part of this trip and it is breathtaking. You’ll really enjoy it. We can’t say enough great things about this tour and Ulla. We feel like we found a new friend for life!

5.00What a lovely adventure with a lovely guide. Ulla is so interesting, friendly, and passionate about Ireland, that our experience was amazing. She is just so much fun to travel with and nothing was too much for her to make sure our day was memorable.

Had tons of information and was fun We loved visiting the Connemara as it is beautiful, the Kylemoor Abbey was terrific as we toured the House, the Abbey and then the restaurant/bar and enjoyed a beverage in the bar area. Beautiful. People were fantastic; grounds are beautiful and you have to tour the gardens as they are set up in sections and amazing. Wished we would have had more time as our guide was willing to show us more but we had another commitment Definately recommend this tour

5.00Our tour through the beautiful Connemara, Kylemore Abbey and Doolough Valley was amazing. Ulla is a great guide. She's knows the area and its history so well and her enthusiasm is infectious. My advice for those of you thinking about booking: DO IT. Plan your time in Galway around her availability. You won't regret it.

5.00The whole day was amazing. From the moment Ulla picked us up, and listened to what we like to do and see, it was a perfect day. She has an incredible knowledge of the area. You know she truly loves what she does. She knew all the best spots to show us. Driving thru Connemara is breathtaking. Kylemore Abbey is a beautiful place to visit, we had an amazing lunch there in the cafe. Doolough Valley is awe inspiring. The drive back, she took us along the Wild Atlantic coast, it was the perfect ending to a perfect day .
