As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 Camp for hot lunch and soon after hot lunch we will proceed with flat sport for 3 hours to shira camp 2.

Shira 2 to Lava Tower Shira 2 to Lava Tower Elevation: 13,800 ft to 15,190 ft meters(3850m to 4600m) Distance: 7 km/4 miles Hiking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Lava Tower to Barranco Camp Elevation: 15,190 ft to 13,044 ft meters(4600m to 3900m) Distance: 3 km/2 miles Hiking Time: 2-3 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert We begin the day climbing up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower – a 300 ft tall volcanic rock formation. We descend down to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest to an altitude of 13,000 ft. Although you begin and end the day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization.

Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft meters(3900m to 4000m) Distance: 5 km/3 miles Hiking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert We begin the day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Then we climb the non-technical but steep, nearly 900 ft cliff. From the top of the Barranco Wall we cross a series of hills and valleys until we descend sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb up leads us to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day meant for acclimatization.

We continue up to the rocky section to Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft meters(4600m to 5895m) Distance: 5 km/3 miles Hiking Time: 7-8 hours Habitat: Arctic Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp Elevation: 19,341 ft to 10,065 ft meters(5895m to 3000m) Distance: 12 km/7 miles Hiking Time: 4-6 hours Habitat: Rain Forest Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch.

5.00We completed our Kilimanjaro trek with Kili Team Adventures and were extremely pleased with all elements of the communication, planning, and quality of the tour. It wasn't the cheapest tour, as I had asked for quotes from several other local companies, however Kili Yeam assured me that their porters, guides, and cooks were treated and paid fairly and not exploited. That was really important to me. Musa gave great advice prior to booking about which route would be most suitable given that we went during the rainy season. He was great at answering the pre-trip queries and provided prompt, comprehensive advice on what to expect and pack. He was also extremely patient, as we couldn't commit immediately due to the uncertainty around flight plans caused by the conflict in Iran. We were met on arrival at JRO airport and taken to our hotel, a mid-range place that was both comfortable and clean. We began our trek the following day and met with the Kili Team crew, which included 8 porters/cooks and 2 guides. The crew were brilliant. They were lovely guys and they worked so hard to ensure that our trip ran smoothly. It was my 50th birthday whilst on the trek, so really was the trip of a lifetime. Amari and Thadeus, our guides, and the crew surprised me with a bottle of alcohol free sparkling wine and a birthday dance, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food throughout the trip was fantastic, especially given that I was a vegetarian and my friend a meat-eater, so had to vary the meal plan to provide enough protein for the both of us. Amani provided us with hot water in the morning to wash and hot water in the evening to soak our feet. The tent was robust, with an attached dining area, and the roll mat and sleeping bag were super cosy. The guides made sure we walked at a sensible speed to pace and prep us for the final ascent. We didn't ever feel rushed or uncomfortable on the ascent, and the camping locations were carefully selected to improve acclimatisation. Our guides conducted daily health obs to check our O² sats and pulse. Musa's advice regarding the route was spot on. We only had one morning of light rain, as we walked the northern circuit, in the rain shadow. We ascended through very defined climatic zones, with the most spectacular scenery. The guides were knowledgeable about the geography and ecology, and they ensured that we didn't leave a trace of litter. We didn't see any other tourists until the summit day. We felt so privileged to have the mountain to ourselves. It was magical. It was an unbelievable experience and I still can't quite believe how spectacular our trek was. Our porters carried our main bags, which were under 10kgs because of the great advice given by Musa as to what we'd need. We just carried our day packs with waterproofs, sunscreen, water, and phones. However, our guides carried our day packs on summit day, so we just had to walk with our poles. Other groups had to carry their own day bags and we heard several of them complaining that they were going too fast and were struggling to breathe/keep up. The other groups were herded up and down in a rushed way, whereas we took it very slowly, didn't feel particularly out of breath (just a bit heavy legged from fatigue) and got to enjoy the most spectacular sunrise, just my friend and I and our 2 lovely guides. As I made it to the summit, I was completely overcome with emotion, and I cried. It was so special. The descent was pretty brutal, and (in my opinion), harder than the ascent, but we were able to go at our own pace. At the end of the trek, we stopped for lunch and the crew brought out a birthday cake. I was so touched at their thoughtfulness and kindness, that I felt quite choked up. We returned to the hotel for a night to rest and recover. Most of the kit that I took with me, such as my technical tee-shirts, insulated trousers, hiking boots, waterproof trousers, fleeces, and hat were all donated to the crew at the end of the trek, along with a cash tip. I am so honoured and grateful to have completed my climb with the Kili Team crew. I honestly cannot praise them enough and I am so appreciative of all of their hard work to make my Kili trek one of the best experiences of my life. I have already recommended Kili Team Adventures to friends who are planning to make the trip.

5.00My brothers and I climbed the Kilimanjaro using the Lemosho route in 8 days and the Machame route in 7 days. We are very happy with the overall experience and with the excellent support of the Kili Team Adventures team. Before the hike, we received great support from our host Moses, who did an exceptional job with the reserve and also organized all the logistics related to the trekking. We were lucky enough to be accompanied by two outstanding guides, Joel and Samuel. Both were exceptional and made sure we were safe, comfortable and in good company. We learned a lot about the mountain thanks to the team and also enjoyed the beautiful views during the tour. The journey was demanding and we would not have succeeded without your support. We both reached the summit and owe our success to the excellent support of our team. I can only praise the entire staff of Kili Team Adventures.

5.00Fantastic experience with Kili Team Adventures. Much greater value for money than Altezza. We did a bespoke trip with just my 4 friends and we had great spots, a great supporting team: guides, cook and many more. All of the team members were great and very supportive. Last but not least Mussa, the owner is extremely resposive and professional.

5.00From the first moment we knew we were in good hands. Mussa, the head of KILITEAM, as great captain, leads with heart and experience, and that is rating in every detail. But what really made this adventure special was the human team that accompanied us throughout the climb. Our guides, Amiri and Isaac, were much more than guides: they were our companions, our daily motivation and our eyes on the mountain. His knowledge, patience and joy guided us step by step to the top. And what about Amani, our guardian angel at every meal. No matter how tall we were, there he was, with a smile and hot tea waiting for us, as if he knew exactly what we needed. In the harshest moments, it was his voice that gave us our energy back. When the stomach squeezed or the body faltered, his Medical Knowledge and Capacity (in covers) to reassure us gave us enormous assurance. They were constantly checking vital signs with specialist equipment, and although it wasn’t necessary to use the oxygen bottles they were always prepared for, knowing they were there in case something happened gave us invaluable peace of mind. The group of porters was just amazing. When we arrived at the camps, everything was ready and ready to receive us. An invisible but absolutely essential effort. They made us feel at home, in the middle of the mountain. And when some minor setback arose, the answer was always the same: “Hakuna Matata”. Nothing was a problem. Everything was solved effectively, quickly and with a positive attitude that gave us total confidence. We are a family of three and a friend: Eva and Miguel, 55 and 56, Judith, 27, and Jose, 72. Thanks to KILITEAM, we all achieved our dream together. If you are thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro and speak Spanish, do not hesitate: KILITEAM is the best thing that can happen to you. Not only will they take you to the top, they will accompany you on a journey you will remember all your life. If anyone needs more information about our experience, we will be happy to share it. It was unforgettable!

5.00We first heard about Kili Team Adventures from a friend who had previously completed the Kilimanjaro trek with them. Their pricing was far more competitive compared to the other estimates we received, so we decided to go ahead with them and we’re so glad we did! We successfully summitted on July 14th, and the entire experience from start to finish was exceptional. Mussa ensured everything ran smoothly — from the moment we landed at the airport to our drop-off at the end of the trip. For our group of six, we had a 23-member crew who looked after us with incredible care. The food was a delightful surprise — fresh, plentiful, and far better than we ever expected on a mountain trek. Special thanks to Peter, Amiri, and Rajabu, the best guides we could have asked for. Their expertise, encouragement, and warmth made all the difference. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t think twice — I’d choose Kili Team Adventures again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!

5.00What a wonderful experience we had trekking the Machame Route on Mount Kilimanjaro with Kili Team Adventures. From being picked up in Moshi to reaching Uhuru Peak, everything felt safe, warm, and well organized. Our guide Chriss and his team were professional, encouraging, and made sure we drank enough water and took each day at the right pace (polepole). The food was hot, delicious, and generous, and our tents and sleeping mattresses were high quality and clean. The Machame Route is scenic and challenging but with Kili Team Adventures crew, the climb felt manageable and truly rewarding. Highly recommend this local tour organizer for those who are looking for Kilimanjaro lifetime experience.
