5.00The Chacchoben Ruins excursion was easily my favorite excursion during our caribbean cruise. The drive takes about 50mins from the port to the site, but our guide (Octavio) was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating the entire time. He shared the history of the Mayan people as well as the history of surrounding region of Mahahual. His passion for sharing the history of the people was exciting and refreshing, it kept both me and my gf invested. As for the tour itself, the site is very beautiful and impressive. The guide of the tour (Ismael) was also extremely informative and generous. He showed us around the site and explained the importance of each structure and substructures that have yet to be found. He encouraged us to take photos and even took some for us.

3.00Just okay. Would have been nice to see more of the island. You get on and go straight to the ruins. Long ride on a long road with pretty much no scenery, just bush on both sides. We were in the back seats of the van and couldn't hear anything the guide was saying because of the radio playing. You gotta turn the music down when you have something to communicate.

5.00We booked the Chacchoben Day Trip thru Viator with Costa Maya Tours. It is half the price as what the cruise ship offers(same tour). The instructions as how to get to the tour start site are easy to follow, just read your itinerary/ticket that they send you. You will not get lost getting there. We got off the ship early and made it early to the tour company, but had to wait for the rest of the group. If you buy a private tour thru them, you leave right away. It takes about 50 minutes to get there, you spend about an hour there, then 50 minutes back to the cruise terminal. We got back on time, no problems. It’s interesting learning about the Mayan culture, and looking at the sites. At the site there’s only 4 pyramids, if I remember correctly, but still worth while to us. We had a good dry day. We felt safe with Costa Maya tours.

5.00Was a wonderful tour. Explained on the hour long drive the Mayan culture. Once we arrived we were handed off to a guide at Chacchoben who was knowledgeable with the ruins. We had time to shop in the gift shop and upon entering the bus to get us back we were offered a soda and snack. On our way back to the ship they asked if anybody wanted to stop at a local fruit stand, I thought that was also a very nice gesture..Our tour group was a party of 10 it was nice versus the large tour groups.

5.00The guide was great and we enjoyed the walk back in time to learn so much. I suggest wearing good shoes. When you leave the port to find the excursion walk straight up the street to the large ruin and it’s the hut located behind it.

5.00Our guide was an 18-year old girl who grew up near the area and was very knowledgeable about the ruins. Her English was very good . She was organized and being with her was enjoyable.
