We start at 7 am from Quito and will take a different way to enter to the National park and will leave by the regular national park entrance gate.

Driving through 3 volcanoes PASOCHOA, RUMIÑAHUI and SINCHOLAGUA going through the real AVENUE OF THE VOLCANOES.

1st activity: HORSEBACK RIDE.

After this horseback ride experience, we will drive for about half hour until the parking lot located on the 14800 feet or 4700 mts above sea level from where the hike to the BASE CAMP will start.

If you are not an adventurous person, don't like bumpy roads, get bothered for changing weather or heart problems. DO NOT JOIN this experience.

Avenida De Los Volcanes

We will drive by the real Avenue of the Volcanoes noted on Gps as Avenida de los Volcanes. On the way we will stop by a gas station for using restrooms and buying something for lunch as well as enough water and any snacks needed for the day. We will drive in the Middle of the following volcanoes (Pasochoa/ Rumiñahui and Sincholagua)until arriving to Cotopaxi Volcano.

Once we arrive to this entrance gate, you will have the opportunity for buying coca leaf bags ir candies to help with the altitude problems, also convenient spot to buy gloves, hats, ponchos made by a local.

Hostel pick up was on time, transport to Cotopaxi was comfortable. I enjoyed every second of this tour, the horseback ride was amazing. The hike to the base camp was moderate and very scenic. Our guide Dario was very experienced and shared lots of his knowledge with us, he was great!

We had an incredible experience visiting Cotopaxi thanks to Darío and Fátima! From start to finish, they went above and beyond to make the day memorable. The horse ride through the stunning landscape was unforgettable, and the hike up to the base camp of the volcano was both challenging and rewarding. What really stood out was how thoughtful and attentive they were. They made sure everyone was engaged, sharing insights about the landscape, local culture, and the history of Cotopaxi in a way that was both informative and fun. They also came fully prepared—bringing extra jackets, gloves, and hats for those of us who underestimated just how cold and wet it could get up there. That level of care made a huge difference. If you're considering a trip to Cotopaxi, I can’t recommend Darío and Fátima enough. They truly made the experience special.

I thought it was a great experience! It definitely was much harder than expected because of the elevation, but our guide Dario was very accommodating and encouraging! Would definitely recommend!

Such a great experience, I would recommend to anyone! Tour guides were knowledgeable and patient with us hiking to base camp. Thank you Dario for telling us about chagras and other cool facts!! They send you a list of recommended things to bring the day before the activity. I didn’t follow this but I’d really bringing a change of clothes for after because your clothes might get sweaty and/or wet from the rain. If you have a thermos a warm sweet drink is recommended to bring on the hike to help w altitude sickness. It’s a full day activity so make sure you don’t have anything planned too early in the evening. There was a gas station stop on the drive to the park, which was good for getting money from the ATM too! And at the stop where we rode the horses there is a local woman who sells cute hats, sweaters and gloves as well as snacks.

What an awesome day with Darío! Everything went smoothly, even though we changed hotels. Footprint Journeys was able to arrange alternate transportation. It was a beautiful day to ride horses in the Cotopaxi National Park. The hike up to the base camp isn't for the faint of heart. But I was able to reach my destination. Highly recommend this tour if you are in the Quito, Ecuador area.
If you are looking for an excellent PRIVATE tour, this is the way to go!! Highly recommend!

Jorge was an incredible guide for the day. He went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for our picnic lunch, and was very attentive throughout the entire day.

Our tour to Cotopaxi was an unforgettable experience. The horseback ride before the hike was relaxing and offered spectacular views, our guide Dario was very nice and respectful. The hike up the volcano was a bit strenuous for someone that is the least bit athletic, but it was worth it. Our guide Jorge was extremely kind and patient, not once did he make me feel bad or rush me, which made the experience that much more enjoyable. I really appreciated his encouragement and enthusiasm during our tour. I would love to go back and book more tours with him.

Really great experience! Our guides, Darío and Fátima, were fantastic. The horseback ride was very scenic and tranquil. Afterwards, the short hike up to Cotopaxi base camp (~45 minutes) was challenging but doable, thanks to the patience of Fátima, who stayed with us when we had to take breaks and never rushed us. We highly recommend this tour!

Very epic day being on horse back and then hiking up to 4800 meters elevation. It’s a life time experience for sure. If you enjoy the sense of achievement, this is definitely for you.
