Explore Damnoen Saduak, the most popular floating market in Thailand, great for photo opportunities, food, and for giving an insight into a bygone way of life.
Although the market evolved more into a tourist attraction nowadays, it’s still worth the visit for its unique atmosphere and the experience it offers.
Furthermore, we'll visit Talad Rom Hoop, also known as 'Train Umbrella Market', for a unique market experience.
The market literally sits on the railway track and every day customers and shopkeepers make way for the Bangkok-Maeklong train to pass. With the ringing of a warning bell followed by an announcement in Thai over the loudspeaker, the vendors pull back their awnings within seconds. Amazing!

The floating market is about a 2 hr drive from Bangkok, so get ready to sit in a van with others for a while (you’ll all be buds the whole drive back). The floating market is definitely a tourist trap but it’s a great way to experience how it was in Thailand before cars/roads. You can get some really cool vacation photos here. The goods being sold were the typical Thai market fare (a bit more expensive than the regular markets). We ate some pad thai and had frozen drinks at a little sit down place in the shade. So cheap and delicious. The railway market was a tourist trap too - selling the same things but the cheapest I’ve seen so far. Very nice vendors along the tracks. A fun place to take photos/video . There was a nice little sit down cafe with air conditioning to rest at. We also made a stop at a 400 year old temple. It’s nickname: Tree Temple because it has the roots from four trees covering it from top to bottom. On the drive there and back, it would have been nice of the guide to tell us things. Instead, he napped. When he was “on” though he was good. Definitely a fun touristy day.

We got lucky with our guide Serena, her knowledge, passion and expertise made the day! She guided us perfectly through all the chaos and even found the time to ensure we got all the pictures we needed.

Everything was perfect. Surina tried her absolute best to give us the best experience we could possibly have. Even when a temple that was programmed to go was closed, she chose another temple to visit which was close to us and gave us the full experience.

The places we visited were great but the trip felt rushed and didn't have enough time. Approx 40 mins in each place. Lunch wasn't provided which we knew as it said online, but there wasn't a time slot allocated for lunch. That meant we didn't have much time left in one of the places after we'd eaten. The small mini bus was also too hot and water wasn't provided until the ride back. It was also cramped, loud and uncomfortable. This would have been okay for a short trip but we spent nearly 5 hours travelling in this thing. I'd do the tour again but with a different tour company with a better bus.
